June 22: Community Meeting: South Boston High School Building Update from 6pm to 7pm at BCYF Tynan, 650 E Fourth Street. Join for a City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services + Boston Public Schools community meeting regarding the former Excel High School / South Boston High School building. There will be an update on preparation activities over the past year including a building renovation, and the identification of a new school community to be housed at this historic site. June 23: Atlantic Wharf Programming Coffee Hour at 9am to discuss the kick off of 2027 event planning, upcoming programming and community engagement. The event will take place in the Fort Point Room at 290 Congress St.

June 24: Resilient Fort Point Channel Virtual Information Session at 6pm This community information session will provide updates on the Resilient Fort Point Channel Infrastructure Project, including progress on design and permitting. Participants will also learn about the project’s purpose, projected effectiveness, proposed timeline, and opportunities for community input.

June 27: Moakley Park Community Update from 12pm to 2pm in person at Moakley Park.  Enjoy food, music and activities while learning more about the park project and share your thoughts,

June 29: Resilient Fort Point Channel Open House + Site Walks Drop-in attendance is welcome any time between 4 and 7pm at 15 Necco St. There will be site walks with the project team at 5 pm and 6 pm.

Earth Day, Art, Gardening & Love Your Block This Week

April 22: Sustainable Photography Reception (cancelled) on Earth Day from 6pm to 8pm at Midway Gallery's Art Tunnel at Midway Artist Studios, 15 Channel Center St. Mona Miri's solo exhibition explores the delicate state of our changing landscapes. The show is extended through May 30, 2026. 

April 23: Planar Shifts Opening Reception from 5pm to 7pm at the Atlantic Wharf Gallery, 290 Congress Street. This exhibition features Mother Brook Arts & Community Center artists who use parts to compose a whole, deconstruct “wholes” into parts, or blend abstraction and representation in innovative ways. Planar Shifts runs through July 5, 2026.

April 23: Martwa Natura Opening Reception from 6pm to 8pm at the Gallery at 249 A features work by Anna Leliwa. The subject of still life (in Polish martwa natura, literally “dead nature” or “mortal nature”) as interpreted by the artist is a reflection on life that shows flowers, vessels, or fruit sometimes carry meanings far deeper than their decorative appearance. The show runs through May 23, 2026. New this year is free ferry shuttles between East Boston’s Lewis Mall Dock, Fan Pier, and Lovejoy Wharf. December 31: John Boston Harbor Now, the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park, and your closest friends to ring in the New Year with fireworks that will begin promptly at midnight. Public viewing is free and available along the Harborwalk at Fan Pier, Christopher Columbus Park, and the East Boston waterfront.

January 1: Take the L Street Brownies New Year’s Day 2026 Polar Plunge. The L Street Tavern hosts a special march from the bar located at L + 8th to the beach led by the Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes + Drums on January 1st!  Doors open at 8 am. March to M Street Beach as a group, usually between 9am and 10am. A special commemorative t-shirt will be on sale for $25.

January 6: Boston Civic & Design Commission Monthly Meeting Agenda includes 2025 Year in Review by BCDC Executive Director Kristina Ricco and address from Deputy Chief of Urban Design, Diana Fernandez.

January 22 (new date): Resilient Moakley Park Expanded Environmental Notification Form (EENF) , a 60-acre city-owned park susceptible to immediate and regular flooding following major rainstorms due to limited stormwater management infrastructure and high groundwater conditions; with projected sea level rise which will turn the park into a major flood pathway inland. The City’s strategy includes the construction of a resilient landscape berm while simultaneously making improvements to stormwater and community amenities. FPNA announces our 20th Annual Spring Volunteer Beautification days, building upon ten years of Boston Shines participation and this year's tenth anniversary of Love Your Block.

Show your love for Fort Point by planting flowers and sweeping our way into spring. Love Your Block is a spring citywide program to beautify and clean up Boston one block at a time. Tools, gloves and commemorative t-shirt provided. No green thumb required.

Fort Point businesses are asked to sponsor the creation of a living tapestry of flowers and vines. Employees are invited to get out of the office and dig in the dirt on:

April 22: Sustainable Photography Opening Reception from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Midway Gallery, 15 Channel Center St. The exhibition showcases a series of works representing environmental landscapes by photographer Mona Miri. 

April 24: Shifting Tides Opening Reception from 5pm to 7pm at The Gallery at Atlantic Wharf, 290 Congress St. Artists straddle their ability to see beauty deeply while nonetheless recognizing the vulnerability of our natural environment. The show is curated by scientist Judy Galvin and Fort Point artist Dorothea Van Camp.

April 25: Microplastics and The Human Body, a talk by Dr. Bridget Lee on why plastics are a large part of climate change, how we became dependent on plastics in our world and how they are appearing in our bodies. The talk will take place at 630pm at the FPAC Art Space, 70 Sleeper St. The talk is free to the public thanks to the support of a generous private donor. 

April 26: A Marked Man in the Neighborhood, an evening of short films by Rocco Giuliano: writer/star/host, Henry Dane: producer/director, and Gino Mauro: videographer/editor/producer at the FPAC Art Space, 70 Sleeper Street. Doors open at 6pm. Screenings are from 7pm to 8;30pm. Space is limited. RSVP for these free screenings.

A Neighborhood Vigil For Gracie Monday, March 24th

On Sunday March 24, 2024 at approximately 5pm, four year old Gracie Gonchar was killed crossing Sleeper Street.

The Fort Point neighborhood is holding a vigil on the one year anniversary of her death at the corner of Congress Street and Sleeper Street on Monday, March 24th at 5:30pm.
