July 15: Blood Drive outside of 268 Summer St. from 8am to 2pm.  Blood donations are important during the summer when regular donors are on vacation.  The need for a blood for surgeries, cancer treatment, etc., does not take a vacation! Make your appointment.

July 15: Conservation Commission Public Hearing at 6pm. Agenda includes the Boston Children's Museum (underground stormwater holding tank and associated outfall, deployable flood barriers, and waterproof cladding & other resiliency improvements)

July 16: Office Hours: Updates to Dimensional Definitions and Code Structure from 4pm to 6pm. This amendment to the Zoning Code focuses on updating the zoning definitions for dimensional requirements, such as building height, yards, building lot coverage, and more. Snow Emergency, Snow Clearing, Emergency Shelters & Heating Guidelines

Updated 2/24: Snow emergency ends Tuesday, February 24th at 6pm.  If you parked at discounted or free garage, residents have until 8pm to get the snow emergency parking rate. Be in the know. Sign up for emergency alerts. Parking space savers must be removed by Thursday, February 26th at 6pm. 

As seen from multiple outlets including FPNA's Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook & X, Boston is under a snow emergency. Lydia Polaski, the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services South Boston Liaison, is sharing some additional information to get us through the snowstorm safely, along with some gentle reminders of property owner and tenant snow responsibilities. If you can, FPNA asks that you to check on your neighbors who might need additional assistance.

The City is urging residents to abide by snow regulations and encouraging all drivers to use caution if traveling. Residents are also encouraged to sign up for emergency notifications through AlertBoston and to call 311 for non-emergency related issues. For any emergency, residents should call 911. 

Boston City Hall and other municipal buildings, including Boston Public Library branches and Boston Centers for Youth & Families, will be closed on Monday, February 23, 2026. Online services will remain available. 

For the duration of the snow emergency, parking is prohibited in Boston Public Library and Boston Public Schools parking lots. Vehicles may be towed if they are parked in parking lots during the snow emergency. 

• A snow emergency has been declared to start at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22. A parking ban will also take effect at that time and all vehicles parked on posted snow emergency arteries will be towed to allow for snow clearing operations. Boston residents with a resident sticker can find a list of free and discounted garages here. Parking at participating garages will begin at 12:00 p.m. today. Discounted parking starts two hours before a declared snow emergency and ends two hours after lifting the emergency.

• Curbside trash and recycling will operate on a delayed schedule. All neighborhoods will experience a one-day delay in trash and recycling service. 

• Please note: Food waste collection will be delayed by one day in all neighborhoods this week. Bulk items, mattress, and textile collections are cancelled. Residents who were scheduled for Monday collection will receive email or phone communication with instructions on how to reschedule. For the most up-to-date information by address and collection type, visit boston.gov/trash-day

• Nighttime street sweeping on main roads, arteries, and commercial roads is canceled until further notice. Updates will be provided on boston.gov when night time street sweeping is scheduled to resume.

• Individuals have 48 hours to use a space saver after the end of an emergency. After that, residents must remove it from the street. 

The Public Works Department (PWD) will have over 900 pieces of equipment on City streets at the height of the storm. Public Works will begin snow removal following the storm, deploying snow removal units as well as bobcats and skid steers to open up crosswalks on main thoroughfares. Public Works has continued to melt snow in snow farms to create more capacity in anticipation of the upcoming snowfall. The PWD has over 35,000 tons of salt on hand ahead of the storm.

Rules on clearing snow:



• Property owners must fully clear snow, sleet and ice from sidewalks and curb ramps abutting the property within three hours after the snowfall ends, or three hours after sunrise if the snow ends overnight. Curb and pedestrian ramps to the street should be cleared fully and continually over the duration of the storm to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities. If the storm lasts for an extended period of time, property owners are asked to continually check and clear ramps abutting their property. 

• Removal of snow and ice from a private property to the street or sidewalk is prohibited. 

• Property owners are required by law to clear sidewalks and curb ramps adjacent to their property, all the way down to the concrete, ensuring a 42 inch wide path of travel in order to provide access for wheelchair users, strollers, etc..

• To help prevent further trash and recycling service delays, containers must be fully accessible to collection crews. Dumpsters and access paths must be fully shoveled and cleared of snow and ice so trucks can safely provide service.  

• Failure to comply with these rules can result in fines issued by PWD's Code Enforcement Division. Fines associated with improper removal of snow can be found here.

Information and resources to support individuals experiencing homelessness:

• If you see a person experiencing homelessness or individuals out in the cold who appear immobile, disoriented, or underdressed for the cold, please call 911.

• The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) utilizes a city-wide network of emergency shelters, outreach providers, city agencies, and first responders to assist those in need of shelter.

• Boston Public Health Commission's emergency shelters are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and when temperatures are below freezing (32 degrees), amnesty is in place for those with nonviolent restrictions. Men can access shelter at the 112 Southampton Street Shelter, and women should go to the Woods Mullen Shelter at 794 Massachusetts Ave. BPHC and the City also work closely with other shelter providers to ensure that no client is without shelter, food, resources, and a warm respite from the cold.

• Shelters are available any time of day or night for those in need.

• During extreme cold weather, street outreach teams operate with extended hours and provide mobile outreach vans on the streets in the evening and throughout the day.

Heating guidelines for property owners and tenants:

• Following the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code, the heating season officially begins on September 15 and runs through June 15. Property owners must heat habitable spaces at a minimum temperature of 68 degrees between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. and 64 degrees between 11:01 p.m. and 6:59 a.m.

• In case of emergency, property owners are encouraged to keep a list of licensed contractors (electrician, plumber, and general contractor) on file. Tenants experiencing problems with their heating system should check the thermostat, ensure the dial is turned on, and report insufficient or no heat problems to the property owner or manager immediately.

• If your landlord or property manager is unresponsive, call 311 to file a complaint.

2/11: Boston in Focus: Capturing a Changing Urban Canvas, a powerful collection of work from AFH teens, alumni artists, and local Boston photographers, each with their own perspective and truth on the changes our city has undergone within the past two decades, opens with an Artist Talk at 5pm followed by a reception at 6pm at Artist For Humanity (AFH), 100 W. 2nd St. 

2/12: Artists of Tomorrow: Self Portraits, created by Artists for Humanity (AFH) teens, opens from 4pm to 6pm at the FPAC Art Space, 70A Sleeper Street. The portraits are honest, imaginative reflections on who they are and who they are becoming. Together, they tell a collective story of emerging identity, possibility, and the vibrant future these young creatives are shaping for themselves and their communities.

2/13: South Boston Office Hour with our neighborhood liaison, Lydia Polaski, from 10:30am to 11:30am at Elephantine Bakery, 332 Congress Street. Age Strong's 2026 Cost-Savings Clinics 

Given the rising costs of living, we know it's a struggle to make ends meet. To help, Boston’s Age Strong Commission will host free in-person cost-savings clinics to assist Boston’s older residents (age 55+) to help lower everyday expenses like fuel assistance, home repair, water/sewer discounts, property tax relief, SNAP, Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit, Medicare Savings Program and more.

10/16-10/18: Climate Beacon Conference 2024: Building Better, Powering Better, Moving Better and Adapting Better at Atlantic Wharf, 280 Congress St. This is a free conference. On Thursday afternoon, the Wharf District Council will present the public/private partnership that created the district’s “Conceptual Masterplan for Climate Resilience” based upon the City’s Climate Ready.

10/21: 259-267 Summer Street (aka the Boston Wharf Co sign building) Public Meeting from 6-8pm. Convert existing office building to mixed-use building, to contain approximately 77 dwelling units, with amenity space, and approximately 3 commercial/retail units, as part of the Office to Residential Conversion Pilot program.  Register.

10/21: 22 Drydock Avenue Public meeting at 6pm. The Notice of Project Change (NPC) proposes the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting the third floor of ISQ2 to the third floor of ISQ3 over Northern Avenue. The NPC Project includes approximately 1,440 square feet of new construction with minimum clearance height of approximately 32.5 feet over all portions of Northern Avenue.

10/24: Gillette’s in-person Community Workshop at 6pm at 105 W 1^ST Street for pre-filing planning of the redevelopment of Gillette’s approximately 31-acre site along the Fort Point Channel. It is anticipated that the Project will be built out in phases. It is further anticipated that the Project will support the transition from a site located in a Manufacturing Zone where allowed uses are primarily commercial and industrial uses to a site zoned to also include residential uses as allowed uses. It is further anticipated that redevelopment of the Project Site will include a combination of contiguous, usable green open spaces linked to adjacent public realm improvements

MAYOR WU ANNOUNCES CURBSIDE FOOD WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM

Building on her commitment to make Boston a Green New Deal City, Mayor Michelle Wu and the Public Works Department announced that a curbside food waste collection program with rolling online enrollment is now available. Food waste collection will align with residents’ scheduled trash and recycling collection days. This program will reduce the City’s reliance on landfills and incinerators, and make it more convenient for Boston residents to dispose of their household food waste. The food waste, which will be collected through a partnership between Garbage to Garden and Save That Stuff, will be sent to Save that Stuff's composting site in West Bridgewater to be turned into compost that will be made available to Boston parks, gardens, and schools, and sent to Waste Management's CORe Facility in Charlestown where it will be made into clean energy. City Announcements MAYOR WU ANNOUNCES CITY INITIATIVES FOR A SAFE, HEALTHY SUMMER Mayor Michelle Wu announced the City of Boston’s comprehensive plan for a safe and healthy summer for all Boston residents, communities, and neighborhoods. Mayor Wu announced several violence prevention and intervention initiatives, including the Community Ambassadors Program, “Adopt a Block” initiative, Operation Homefront, and new employment and job training opportunities. These programs fill critical gaps in service delivery, build new possibilities for Boston, and ensure the City fully supports our communities most directly impacted by violence with the safety, trust, and accessibility that residents deserve. This new, intensive approach addresses public safety through a lens of public health, equity, economic opportunity, and community trust. The initiatives announced today will also organize the wide variety of preexisting programs from the Mayor’s Office, Boston Public Schools (BPS), the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), the Human Services Cabinet, and the Boston Police Department (BPD) into a coordinated network of services to support Boston residents this summer. MORE THAN $800,000 AWARDED TO 120 LOCAL ARTISTS AND CREATIVE WORKERS THROUGH THE OPPORTUNITY FUND Mayor Michelle Wu and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture announced 120 grants totaling $801,343 have been awarded to artists, teaching artists, cultural practitioners, and creative workers as part of the City’s Opportunity Fund program. This is the fifth year of the program, and the most funding that has been allocated to the program to date. Learn more here. MAYOR WU PROVIDES UPDATES ON CITY EFFORTS TO ADDRESS CRISES CENTERED AT MASS AND CASS Mayor Michelle Wu provided updates on the City of Boston’s next steps to address the intersection of unsheltered homelessness and substance use crises, centered in the area surrounding Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard. The City of Boston has developed a comprehensive Warm Weather Plan to address immediate public safety and public health needs during the spring and summer months. Learn more here. The cooling kits are mobile water misting tents designed for short-term use to easily set up and disassemble and provide immediate cooling. Each cooling kit includes a hose, misters, and a tent to set up at public outdoor events throughout the summer. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Pride Month Kickoff at City Hall To kickoff the month, the City will be hosting an event on Wednesday, June 1, 5PM,  which will include the lighting up of Boston City Hall in the colors of the Pride Flag. There will also be a speaking program with remarks from the Mayor and  LGBTQ+ community members and live performances from local LGBTQ+ artists. This kickoff event will also serve to amplify other Pride events being held throughout the month. The City of Boston’s theme for this event will be “PRIDE: Past, Present, and Future!” Please register today at Pride Month Kickoff.  Public Meeting | Bus Network Redesign - Boston (Virtual) Thursday, June 2, 6PM The Bus Network Redesign is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make bold improvements to the bus network for the people who depend on it most.
