APP # 27.0065 FPC 324 A STREET - WITHDRAWN BY STAFF (tentatively scheduled for September's meeting)
Applicant: James Cochener
Proposed Work: Remove existing awnings, patch and repair brickwork. Remove existing light sconces, patch and repair. Remove existing railing and sculpture. At roof remove existing steel structure and weathervane. Install new illuminated channel letter sign at roof. Install new painted sign, two lightbox signs, and 3 new awnings. Additionally, install new planter boxes at street level and at the underside of windows. Clean and repaint masonry to like new condition, install new light sconces, and paint doors.

APP # 27.0073 FPC 343 CONGRESS STREET:  Limited Façade Repairs – To match existing: Cut/point specified areas on the Northwest elevation, Cut/point bottom 3’ of brick as needed on the Southwest elevation. Replace spalled brick (Allowance of 25 on each elevation). Clean and coat cast iron shutter hinges and install a soft joint at the metal-to-brick interface on the Northwest elevation Inspect and make safe both Northwest and Southwest elevations.

About The Neighborhood: Farmers Markets, Family Fun, Ice Cream, Art & Music

Feels like summer with the return of farmers markets, an ice cream festival and a Caribbean American Heritage Celebration (new!). Sprinkled in are a updates on Article 80 modernization, Landmark Commissioner appointees, a flood resiliency conference, zoning code hearing on residential development parking minimums and an art opening! On Saturday, there are choices galore with the Fish & Farm Market, Southie Family Funday,  FPAC Instrument Petting Zoo and opening day at the Lawn on D. 

June 1: South Boston Farmers Market opens today and every Monday through November from 11am to 5pm at 446 W. Broadway, adjacent to the municipal parking lot. 

June 2: Boston Civic Design Commission Monthly Meeting | Bostonplans.org at 5pm. On the agenda: Planning Department presentations on Article 80 Modernization Updates by Kevin Crossley, Sr. Programmer plus Commissioner Training procedural updates and a discussion of proposed by-laws. 

June 2 - 4, Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl takes place at 88 Seaport Blvd from 12pm to 8pm. Use code SOUTHIE for $3 off each ticket! Taste over 40 flavors from your favorite national and local ice cream brands and enjoy live music. On June 4th is the, Scoop & Sip Beer Garden from 5pm to 8pm. June 4: City Council Committee on Planning, Development, and Transportation Hearing on Docket #0809, an Order for a Text Amendment to the Boston Zoning Code to largely eliminate parking minimums for residential development, at 10am.

June 4: Opening reception of Continuous Signal from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Gallery at 249 A. Artist John Dykes exhibits 20 new abstract paintings exploring layered structure, gestural movement, and translucent fields that evolve into shifting visual networks. The works examine perception, memory, and the unstable nature of systems and language. Show runs runs through June 28th. The Gallery at 249 A is located within the 249 A Street Artists Cooperative.

June 5: City Council Committee on Planning, Development, and Transportation Hearing on Dockets #0796-0800 | Boston.gov, a hearing regarding various appointments, including an appointee to the Boston Landmarks Commission and the Fort Point Channel Landmark Commission. June 5: Celebrate National Caribbean American Heritage Month at the Maritime Park (600 D St) in the Seaport from 5pm to 10pm. Enjoy live music, Caribbean Cuisine, cultural performances and the spirit of the Caribbean. (new!)

June 6: Fish & Farm Market returns for a third year to Boston's Fish Pier every Saturday through October 31st from 9am to 1pm. New this year is live music and craft and art vendors. Buy fresh fish, fresh vegetables and specialty food for your table.

June 6: 15th Annual Southie Family Fun Day hosted by South Boston MOMS Club will take place from 11am to 4pm at the DCR Marine Park, corner of E Broadway & Farragut Rd. Join local families, businesses, nonprofits, and organizations for a full day of entertainment, activities, and community celebration. Guests will enjoy children’s games and activities, live entertainment, food vendors, giveaways, and more throughout the day.

June 6: FPAC Instrument Petting Zoo is back at the Seaport Summer Market (88 Seaport Boulevard) from 1pm to 3pm. Hang out with local musicians, learn about various instruments and maybe find out if you have a secret talent. Saturdays: June 6th, June 13th, June 20th, and June 27th.

June 6: Lawn on D Opening Day kicks off with Harpoon’s annual summer event, Boston Chilling Low Key Music Fest, a one-day outdoor concert experience designed for anyone who enjoys easygoing vibes, live music, and a cold beverage. The free event runs from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with musical performances kicking off at 3:00 PM.

December 12: We Need to Talk: What if Staying is No Longer an Option? hosted virtually by EBC from 9:30am to 12:30pm. What needs to be in place to manage the huge financial, social, and cultural costs associated with climate disasters and involuntary, unsupported climate migration? What do we need to do to prevent an “everyone for themselves” reaction that worsens existing structural inequality?

December 15: Comment deadline at 5PM for the Wetlands Ordinance Phase 3 regulations that will explicitly address: climate resilience, extended riverfront, climate equity and environmental justice. For coastal, establish a Coastal Flood Resilience Zone (CFRZ) and for inland neighborhoods establish a Inland Flood Resilience Zone (IFRZ) that will help identify and protect areas of the City that will become (or already may be) subject to inland flooding. 10/8: Conservation Commission (ConCom) Public Hearing at 6pm. 
The Commission reviews projects to determine what conditions, if any, the Commission will impose in order to protect the interests of the public and private water supply, groundwater, prevention of pollution, flood control, prevention of storm damage, protection of fisheries and land containing shellfish, and protection of wildlife habitat.

10/8: Water Transportation Study Virtual Public Meeting. View meeting recording and presentation.

Boston Harbor and its connecting waterways offer a unique opportunity to provide transportation for people living, working, and visiting. Ferry service is an important resource that supports growing neighborhoods. It can provide convenient transit in communities with limited public transportation options and increase the resilience of the larger transportation network, especially when there are disruptions to subway or Commuter Rail service.

10/9: Deployables Day is being held jointly with Ready Boston Field Day#2 from 11am to 3pm. Director of Climate Resilience Chris Osgood and Chief Climate Officer Brian Swett will lead a walking tour of downtown deployable flood barriers beginning at 12 pm outside of the Aquarium MBTA station and concluding at 12:30 with a press event on City Hall Plaza, where the Ready Boston Field Day Fair will be taking place and will also include deployable flood barrier vendors and demonstrations, and emergency preparedness tips.

10/9: The Artists of 249 A Street Cooperative cordially invite you to the opening reception of the 249 A Street Artists 2025 Open Studios Group Show from 6pm to 8pm at the Gallery at 249A. The show will be on view through October 19th.

10/10: The Distillery Gallery presents After Progress, a solo exhibition of a new body of work by artist and community organizer Yolanda He Yang, from 6pm to 8pm.
