Tree Hearing To Remove Trees On Congress Street

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 2, 2014, to discuss the proposed removal of public shade trees in Boston.  The hearing will be held in the 3rd floor Conference Room of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department located at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, Roxbury.  

At 10:45 a.m. a hearing will be held to consider a request for removal of three honey locust trees measuring 4 inches dbh in the vicinity of 320 Congress Street, two maple trees measuring 4 to 7 inches dbh in the vicinity of 342 Congress Street, and four Bradford Pear trees measuring 3 inches dbh in the vicinity of 347 Congress Street.

Public testimony will be taken at the hearing, or may be provided prior to the hearing in writing to the Tree Warden, Boston Parks and Recreation Department, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 3rd floor, Boston, MA 02118 or by emailing parks@boston.gov with Tree Hearings in the subject line. 

Final decisions regarding the requests will be made within two weeks of the hearings.  For further information, please contact the Tree Warden at (617) 635-7275.

No Parking Under Summer Street Bridge on A St

Starry Night
This Saturday, September 26, 2014 from 7 am to 7 pm there will be a parking ban in effect underneath the Summer Street bridge on A Street in order to update the Starry Night light installation. The necessary permits are posted and flyers distributed on cars in the vicinity. Please make plans to park elsewhere this Saturday. Boston Sewer Separation Project Update

New 16" gate valve installation at A St. &West Second St.
The Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s (BWSC) South Boston Sewer Separation Project is a federal court-ordered, six-year project is to reduce sewage discharges to Fort Point Channel and Boston Harbor. This project will improve BWSC’s infrastructure by installing new storm drains, sanitary sewers and water mains.

Completed Work as of August 2014
Replacement of 12" DI water main on A St. is complete. Installation of 15" and 12" RCP drains on West Second St. from A St. to Haul Rd. is also complete. Also installed is a new 16-inch gate valve at the intersection of West Second Street and A Street.

Ongoing and Upcoming Work
Water main installation continues on West Second St. from A St. to Dorchester Ave. Sewer replacement work is upcoming on West Second St. between Dorchester Ave. and Athens St.

The City Hall To Go truck is bringing City of Boston's Chief Information Officer Jascha Franklin-Hodge to Fort Point during lunch hour (12:30-2:30) on Friday, September 19, 2014 to answer your questions, be dazzled by your technical ingenuity and listen to your concerns. The truck will be located a 350 Congress St (near A and Congress). Be sure to stop by for a chat or to say hello.

The objective of the South Boston Waterfront Sustainable Transportation Plan is to define and prioritize transportation system investments needed over the next two decades.  At this meeting, a project update will be provided and agency heads from the project's sponsoring organizations will discuss their priorities for the South Boston Waterfront area and listen to your ideas.

Mayor's Neighborhood Services Taking It To The Streets

Mayor Walsh announced NEW (Neighborhood Engagement Walks), an audit program of the streets of Boston. Starting September 15, 2014 staff from the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) will begin walking the 850 miles of city streets across Boston, in an effort to assess every neighborhood from the ground up. They will evaluate infrastructure challenges, identify resident concerns and catalog issues facing the neighborhood. Keep an eye out for Eric Prentis on foot with tablet gathering data. The data will also be used to create a web based story map. NEW is expected to be concluded by the end of the year. A neighborhood report will be presented at a future Fort Point Neighborhood Association (FPNA) neighborhood meeting.

Fort Point Crossroads Initiative Community Update Meeting: September 8th from 6pm - 8pm at Factory 63 (63 Melcher Street).  The Fort Point Crossroads Initiative focuses on making a greater connection between Fort Point and Downtown via improvements to Summer Street and Congress Street. 

FPNA monthly neighborhood meetings: Next meeting is Tuesday, September 30th from 6pm-8pm at Factory 63 with Massport Aviation and Councilor-At-Large Ayanna Pressley. Each meeting opens with a general meeting where neighbors are invited to discuss concerns and ideas for the neighborhood.
