Gillette Buys Back 232 A Street

Gillette completed the purchase of their former parcel at 232 A St for $19.3 million more than the 2021 sale price to Tishman Speyer, securing its headquarters’ presence in Fort Point. 

Tishman Speyer bought 232 A Street through it's life sciences joint venture with Bellco Capital, Breakthrough Properties. The Boston Planning Department Agency Board approved the single-R&D lab and office building with 1.5 acre Binford Park and flood protection in May 2024 . 

It remains to be seen if Gillette will be making any changes to the approved project to accommodate their headquarters that will require filing a Notice of Project Change under the City's Article 80 large project public review process. 

Gillette is continuing to undergo master planning efforts of their 30 acre plant & campus next door.

On August 5th, the Planning Department is hosting a Public Meeting on Zoning Update to Dimensional Definitions and Code Structure (building height, yards, building lot coverage, etc...) from 6pm to 8pm. 

On August 6th, there are two opportunities to engage with the US Army Corp of Engineers' (USACE) Boston Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) draft report.

• The City of Office of Climate Resilience is hosting a virtual information session at 10am on how to best navigate the USACE CSRM report. 

• The Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) is offering a virtual USACE CSRM report briefing that day from 12pm to 1:30pm. Although the registration form is titled GRC Coastal Resilience Financial Blueprint Briefing, this meeting is about the USACE CSRM report. 

On August 8th, the Midway Gallery invites you to the Opening Reception of American Places, Watercolor paintings of American buildings, coastlines and open landscapes by Lonnie Ash at 6pm. 

Meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and experience this thoughtful collection in the Midway Art Tunnel, an intimate and unique gallery space that offers an immersive setting for viewing art.

The exhibition runs through September 27th. The Midway Gallery is located at 15 Channel Center Street.

On August 12th, the Environmental Business Council is virtually presenting Massport: Reflections from the Chief Climate & Resilience Officer, Jill Horwood, from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm. Massport owns over 300 acres in South Boston. 

On August 13th, the Fort Point Channel Landmark District Commission will be meeting. On the agenda is the new Celine Restaurant at 324 A Street (former Blue Dragon location).

Informed Choices is a curated collection of Michael Bourque’s paintings in the mark making style of his art. Mark making illustrates the power of each individual brushstroke and is the basis of his unique style. Repetition makes each brushstroke even more powerful while enhanced with the use of color, which is layered. Flashes of color peek through the pattern to add to the visual interest and colors are made brighter by juxtaposition to contrasting colors while strong shapes are made stronger with the heavy application of paint. The effect is to invigorate the entire work, and to create rich surface textures. The entire methodology reflects informed choices.

April 23: Planar Shifts Opening Reception from 5pm to 7pm at the Atlantic Wharf Gallery, 290 Congress Street. This exhibition features Mother Brook Arts & Community Center artists who use parts to compose a whole, deconstruct “wholes” into parts, or blend abstraction and representation in innovative ways. Planar Shifts runs through July 5, 2026.

April 23: Martwa Natura Opening Reception from 6pm to 8pm at the Gallery at 249 A features work by Anna Leliwa. The subject of still life (in Polish martwa natura, literally “dead nature” or “mortal nature”) as interpreted by the artist is a reflection on life that shows flowers, vessels, or fruit sometimes carry meanings far deeper than their decorative appearance. The show runs through May 23, 2026. It's A Weekend Art Party In Fort Point!

It’s Friday, and you know what that means — the weekend has officially begun! But this isn’t just any weekend. It’s the third weekend in October, which means one thing for Fort Point: it’s time for the 45th Annual Fort Point Open Studios, hosted by incredible artists and the Fort Point Arts Community (FPAC). 

If you’ve lived or worked in Fort Point for a while, you know this is one of the city’s most beloved art traditions — a celebration of creativity, community, and the over 150 artists who make this neighborhood so vibrant. If you’re new to the area, get ready to experience art in studios, galleries, outdoor installations, performances and activities on both sides of the Fort Point Channel. 

And the best part? It’s free — until you fall in love with a piece of art you just have to take home.

USACE Boston CSRM Appointments are also available starting October 15th. 

The South Boston Coastal Resilience Planning efforts first started in 2018. Over the past 7 years, several draft coastal protection concepts on public and private property have been developed. One funding avenue the City is pursuing for its coastal work is a USACE partnership.

There are several other programs in South Boston: Resilient Moakley Park and Connectors, Resilient Fort Point Channel Infrastructure, Interim Deployables Project, and Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park Resiliency solutions. These City-Led initiatives are working in close collaboration to ensure a whole-of-government approach to building resilience across South Boston. 

The City-Led projects are focusing on closing an assortment of near, mid, and long-term near and mid-term flood pathways whereas the USACE team is developing draft alignments to close long-term flood pathways.

Picking up where our neighborhood plans left off, the USACE team has developed draft alignments to present to you for feedback and questions. Your participation is critical and your input will help guide future direction for this work.

We'll be diving into the proposed 31 acre redevelopment plan impacting Fort Point, St Vincent's & West Broadway. Key focus areas include:

• Heights & Density- 20 buildings with heights soaring up to 320 feet. For comparison, State Street is 150 feet tall and the Cambria Hotel is 140 feet.
• Transportation & Access: Traffic, public transit, pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and parking for 4,489 cars—a significant increase from the fewer than 1,000 cars accessing the site today.
• Mix of Land Uses: 66.5% commercial, 30% residential and 3.5% retail uses. No library. No community center. No cultural facility. No commitment to on-site affordable home ownership and rental housing.
• Public Open Space: A state required 6.5 acre waterfront park
• Climate Resilience: Long-term flood protection is critical for the neighborhood, No elevation of the Harborwalk and the specifics and timing of resilient measures unknown.
