346 D Street Public Information Plan Community Meeting

In April 2026, Verizon and the property owner of 346 D Street & 218 W. First, Oliver Street Capital, held a public meeting regarding their proposal to relocate the existing South Boston Verizon facility from 649 Summer Street to 346 D Street.   

As required by the Massachusetts Department of Protection (MassDEP), the demolition and renovation of the 346 D Street property (including 218 W 1st) necessitates remediation of the existing ground pollution on this brownfield site.

A Virtual Public Involvement Plan Meeting will take place on:
Tuesday, November 10, 2026
6:30pm
via Zoom

The meeting will update the public on the steps taken to safely remediate the pollution and to close out the project with MEPA. The Draft Release Abatement Measure (RAM) Completion Report (CR) and Permanent Solution Statement with Conditions (PSSC) will be presented.

The reports will be available at the South Boston Public Library front desk at 646 East Broadway on or before November 10, 2026. An electronic copy of of the reports will be available on the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) website by entering Release Tracking Number (RTN) 3-0038451 and 3-0011566.

Comments on the Draft RAM CR and PSSC are welcome and should be submitted either at the meeting or in writing to Ileen Gladstone. Comments will be accepted through the close of business on December 1, 2026.

On August 5th, the Planning Department is hosting a Public Meeting on Zoning Update to Dimensional Definitions and Code Structure (building height, yards, building lot coverage, etc...) from 6pm to 8pm. 

On August 6th, there are two opportunities to engage with the US Army Corp of Engineers' (USACE) Boston Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) draft report.

• The City of Office of Climate Resilience is hosting a virtual information session at 10am on how to best navigate the USACE CSRM report. 

• The Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) is offering a virtual USACE CSRM report briefing that day from 12pm to 1:30pm. Although the registration form is titled GRC Coastal Resilience Financial Blueprint Briefing, this meeting is about the USACE CSRM report. 

On August 8th, the Midway Gallery invites you to the Opening Reception of American Places, Watercolor paintings of American buildings, coastlines and open landscapes by Lonnie Ash at 6pm. 

Meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and experience this thoughtful collection in the Midway Art Tunnel, an intimate and unique gallery space that offers an immersive setting for viewing art.

The exhibition runs through September 27th. The Midway Gallery is located at 15 Channel Center Street.

Also, on August 8th, the District C-6 Community Service Office is hosting a Community Field Day from 12pm to 4pm at M Street Park. There will be multiple bounce houses, DJ, face painting, ice cream, yard games and even a Cops vs Kids water balloon fight. 

On August 12th, the Environmental Business Council is virtually presenting Massport: Reflections from the Chief Climate & Resilience Officer, Jill Horwood, from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm. Massport owns over 300 acres in South Boston. 

On August 13th, the Fort Point Channel Landmark District Commission will be meeting. On the agenda is the new Celine Restaurant at 324 A Street (former Blue Dragon location).

June 4: Opening reception of Continuous Signal from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Gallery at 249 A. Artist John Dykes exhibits 20 new abstract paintings exploring layered structure, gestural movement, and translucent fields that evolve into shifting visual networks. The works examine perception, memory, and the unstable nature of systems and language. Show runs runs through June 28th. The Gallery at 249 A is located within the 249 A Street Artists Cooperative.

4/29: 320 Summer Street Public Meeting at 6pm. The proponent proposes to renovate, convert and expand the interior space within long-existing and combined brick and beam buildings at the site, by changing its use from commercial office to residential multifamily housing, with ground floor retail at A St elevation, and the construction of a partial mezzanine level to accommodate up to 145 loft-style residential units. 5/5: Boston Harbor Fireworks 🎇 at 9pm. The barge will be off of Fan Pier. The fireworks show will be approximately twelve to fifteen minutes long.
