This Week: Coffee With The Mayor, Transportation Impacts (Gillette) & Harbor Harmonies

6/16: Boston City Councilors-At-Large Candidates Virtual Forum at 6:15pm, hosted by local Democratic Ward Committees. Primary election is September 9th.

6/17: South Boston Coffee Hour with Mayor Wu from 10am to 11am at BCYF Curley Center (1663 Columbia Rd at East Broadway and North Street). (Location change)

  • It's an unique opportunity to speak directly with the Mayor and staff from City departments about City services and resident concerns. 
  • Dunkin’ is back to fuel the conversation with iced coffee and donuts. Dunkin’ will also provide lawn game activities for attendees, gift card giveaways, and the opportunity for residents to win a raffle prize. 
  • Free flowering plants will be provided by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, while supplies last. Fresh fruit will be provided by Star Market. 

6/17: Gillette Redevelopment IAG Public Meeting #4 at 6pm focusing on the transportation network and impacts at the 31 acre Fort Point Channel site.

May 31: Mayor Wu's South Boston Coffee Hour at the Medal of Honor Park from 9:30am to 10:30am. It' a great opportunity to talk to the Mayor and City department heads about neighborhood issues and ideas. You can even get a free plant grown by the Parks Department.

May 31: Comment deadline on the Cannabis Zoning Amendment to remove 1/2 mile buffer between establishments. The intent of the existing buffer zone is to prevent cannabis establishments from opening in clusters to ensure that no particular neighborhood would become the center for cannabis shops, and to ensure that dispensaries are spread out in the city, while allowing access to patients and customers. View amendment and public meeting. Mayor Wu’s Neighborhood Coffee Hours are a unique opportunity to speak directly with the Mayor and staff from City departments about open space and their neighborhoods. 

Dunkin’ will be on-site to fuel the local community with freshly brewed Iced Coffee and assorted fan-favorite MUNCHKINS® donut hole treats. Dunkin’ will brew up even more fun with customized lawn games and gift card giveaways. Residents at each event will also be eligible to win a raffle prize from Dunkin’. 

In addition, each family in attendance will receive a free flowering plant provided by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, while supplies last. July 7: Seaport Circle (701 Congress) Impact Advisory Group Public Meeting at 6pm.The Project will construct a 13-story laboratory/research & development and office building located on Parcel H totaling approximately 587,000 GFA, a two-story job training/non-profit center on an adjacent parcel totaling approximately 16,000 GFA, and an elevated walkway that connects these two buildings and surrounding properties. July 19: 776 Summer St (Edison Power Plant) Phase 1 Impact Advisory Group Public Meeting at 6pm. Phase 1 will be located on 8.4 acres / 364,409 square feet within the approximately 15.2 acre (approximately 661,500 square foot) parcel of land known as and numbered 776 Summer Street in South Boston. It includes the rehabilitation of the Edison Turbine Halls 1, 2, and 3 and the construction of the buildings on Blocks D and F. Register.

Fort Point Outdoors

From the extension of the South Bay Harbor Trail to a walking tour of Fort Point to Love Your Block Fort Point Style to SUP Yoga, there are many opportunities to be part of the great outdoors this week. Last Friday, over sixty employees from more than a dozen companies planted flowers in Fort Point starting a living tapestry for all to enjoy in time for last weekend's Fort Point Art Walk. This Saturday is the residential neighbors'

The proposed project extends the existing South Bay Harbor Trail shared use path behind Gillette to Dorchester Avenue, including Traveler St. and West 4th Street to Albany Road at Union Park Street. The total approximate project length is 0.85 miles. A secure right-of- way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The City of Boston is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be discussed at this hearing.

In celebration of historic preservation month, Boston by Foot hosted a special walking tour of Fort Point on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 6 pm - 7:30 pm. The tour will focus on the Channel itself from how it came to be through the activities of the Boston Wharf Company, South Station development, the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, and recent activation efforts. It will feature the workings of its three remaining historic bridges, plus the memories of the Mt. Washington, the rolling bridges at South Station, and the ambitious cofferdam. The tour starts at James Hook, 440 Atlantic Avenue (corner of Atlantic & Seaport Boulevard). Tickets are $15. More details.

Have Coffee With The Mayor

The Mayor's South Boston Coffee Hour will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 9:30 am - 10:30 am at Sweeney Playground,180 West Fifth Street.

The Neighborhood Coffee Hours give residents a unique opportunity to speak directly with Mayor Walsh about open space and other needs in their neighborhoods.  Through these discussions and a suggestion box at each site, Mayor Walsh looks forward to hearing how the City of Boston can improve upon local parks, public areas, and city services.

“This series provides me with a great opportunity to get out and meet with residents one-on-one,” said Mayor Walsh.  “If you have an issue that we can help with, would like to know more about city services, or just want to come out and have some coffee and refreshments in your local park with your neighbors, we welcome you to our Neighborhood Coffee Hours.”

All participants will enjoy coffee and breakfast treats provided by Dunkin’ Donuts and fresh fruit from Whole Foods Market.  In addition, each family in attendance will receive a flowering plant grown in the city’s greenhouses as a gift from Mayor Walsh.  Residents at the event will also be eligible to win a raffle prizes from Dunkin’ Donuts.  Information will be available on City programs from the Boston Public Library, Boston Public Schools, Boston Police Department, and Boston Centers for Youth & Families.
