Said text amendment brings Article 25 into compliance with federal flood regulations for development in the floodplain while the adoption of the new FIRMs will codify where these regulations will apply.

May 31: Comment deadline on the Cannabis Zoning Amendment to remove 1/2 mile buffer between establishments. The intent of the existing buffer zone is to prevent cannabis establishments from opening in clusters to ensure that no particular neighborhood would become the center for cannabis shops, and to ensure that dispensaries are spread out in the city, while allowing access to patients and customers. View amendment and public meeting. 7 Channel Center Public Meeting: New Life Sciences Owners, New Design & New Opportunities

1/29/24: January 17th Public Meeting for 7 Channel Center Street is rescheduled to February 7th.

The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) is hosting a public meeting to discuss design updates regarding the 7 Channel Center project located in Fort Point within the South Boston Waterfront on:

The meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss outstanding agreements and unaddressed questions about Life Sciences operations, protocols and communications within a mixed use development.

Starting today, there's lots going on about the neighborhood, especially our waterfront. Resiliency tops MassDEP's agenda with information sessions this week followed by hearings next week on draft regulations updates to Chapter 91, wetlands and water quality. 7 Channel Center Public Meeting is tonight. Next week Boston Harbor Now is hosting 232 A Street and the Fort Point Channel Operations Board Annual meeting is occurring. There are two new establishments looking to open up and more (see below):

About The Neighborhood This Week: Gillette, Holiday Art Sales & Other Developments

You won't want to miss what's going on and about the neighborhood this week.

December 5: 7 Channel Center Redevelopment Meet & Greet and Abutters Open House at 6pm at Gilbane's office at 10 Channel Center Street. Meet the new building owners, Phase 3 Real Estate and meet their team, featuring CBT Architects. Learn about the proposed changes to the redevelopment, including full demolition of the existing building and presentation on new design and project timeline. The updated building design is proposed to go before the Fort Point Landmark District Commission for their approval the following week. 

December 5: Squares + Streets Citywide Draft Zoning Amendment Public Meeting at 6pm to present a draft zoning text amendment that will create new Squares + Streets zoning districtsto be adopted into the Boston Zoning Code. Staff will also present on proposed updates to the “Regulation of Uses” section of the Boston Zoning Code (Article 8) to better organize and modernize land uses for today’s needs.  

December 6: Reminder Gillette Community Meeting at 6pm. As a part of a broader business transformation, Gillette will be reshaping its operations in our neighborhood, marking a new chapter in the company's long history in Boston. The decision will bring an opportunity to reimagine Gillette's 31-acre waterfront campus, unlocking new possibilities for the future.  This special meeting hosted by Gillette will help shape the 31 acre site and will be followed by a robust public planning process. December 7: Opening of PAPER CLIPS, A Small Works Holiday Exhibit, featuring

(mostly) works on paper - all priced under $200, from 6pm to 8pm at the Gallery at 249 A, 249 A Street. Paper Clips features more than fifty artworks from artists working at the 249 A Street Cooperative. The exhibit offers a diverse range of techniques and subject matter. Drawing, painting, printmaking & photography are some of the mediums available for gift giving.

Artworks are original, unframed and attached to the wall with paper clips (hence the name) and affordably priced under $200.00 to meet your budget.

May 30: Public Meeting on Inclusionary Development Policy Zoning Amendment at 6pm.  The amendment adds a new Article 79 (Inclusionary Zoning) to the Boston Zoning Code, as well the addition of new definitions to Article 2 (Definitions). May 30: "CROWN" The Highest Level of Consciousness" by Artists for Humanity alumna Wendy “MoMa” Michel from 5pm to 7pm at 100 W 2nd Street.

June 3: Red Bull Cliff Diving World Diving Series Finals at 1pm at the ICA. Free and open to the public. 

June 5:  A Street Sidewalk Widening Public Meeting at 6:30pm.  The City will discuss alternatives and share a preferred design approach to widen the narrow A St sidewalks between Congress St and Melcher St.

 

June 6: A Guide to South Boston’s Transportation Planning and the Development Review Process at 6pm. View guide. Although this transportation planning boundaries are outside of Fort Point and Seaport, it can be helpful to understand adjacent impacts and transportation solutions. Update: We heard at the June 5th A Street Sidewalk Widening Public meeting that there is funding for a new shuttle service to serve Fort Point, Seaport and beyond including A Street (both sides), D Street and the Raymond L Flynn Marine Park. This new shuttle route will be part of the this meeting too. 

June 8: The Midway Gallery cordially invites you to the opening of "This is Boston", a group show of Midway artists interpreting what Boston represents from multiple points of view and mediums, from 5pm to 8pm at 15 Channel Center St. Show runs through August 18th.

June 8: 7 Channel Center Public Meeting at 6pm to discuss mitigation impacts regarding PDA 53. 

June 8: Join Councilors Ed Flynn and Michael Flaherty at 6pm at the South Boston Public Library (646 E Broadway) to discover how to utilize Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds to enhance historic preservation, affordable housing, open space, and outdoor recreation capital projects in our neighborhood. CPA funds have been awarded to the Boston Fire Museum for renovations. Register.
