Holiday Events With A Mix of Life Sciences, Seaport Square Expansion, Climate Resilience & Cycling

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and inviting you all to enjoy holiday events and a couple developments going on in the neighborhood. 

November 29: FPNA Fort Point Seaport Holiday Social at The Holiday Market at Snowport from 6pm-8pm. R.S.V.P. required.

November 30: Boston Harbor Now’s Harbor Use Forum on CFROD (Climate Resilient Flood Overlay District) at 8:30am. Find out how designs are evolving, and what designers, developers, and advocates should know about CFROD.

November 30: 17 Farnsworth St Impact Advisory Group Public Meeting at 6pm. Replace existing, 361-vehicle parking garage built in 1986 with four-story life science building. In addition, per CFROD, dry flood-proof at least two feet above Sea Level Rise Base Flood Elevation (19.5 ft. BCB).

December 1: Winter Cycling Clinic with Seaport TMA & MassBike from 5pm to 6:30pm. Curious about biking into work in the winter, but hesitant about how to get going? Learn best practices about cycling in the window. Meet up at The Benjamin, 25 Northern Ave.

December 2: LightUp Seaport from 5pm - 9pm with holiday tunes, a celeb appearance by Betty the Yeti, and annual tree lighting on Seaport Common. Enjoy special offers and sparkling surprises at neighborhood businesses as you stroll.

December 4: 26th Annual Enchanted Trolley Tour & Tree Lighting with Mayor Wu and Santa at Medal of Honor Park (E. Broadway & M Streets). Festivities start at 2pm. 

December 5: Seaport Square Public Meeting at 6pm to discuss Notice of Project Change and amendments to the Planned Development Area including project impacts and mitigation.

December 7: 7 Channel Center Public/IAG Meeting at 6pm The proposed project is to redevelop an existing historic 4 story building into a 9 story office/labs Life Sciences building. This project requires a Notice of Project Change and an amended Planned Development Area.

July 19: 17 Farnsworth Street Public Meeting at 6pm. Replace existing, 361-vehicle parking garage built in 1986 with four-story Life Sciences building with mechanical penthouse set back from the roof edges to minimize visibility from the ground. No onsite accessory parking. Per Coastal Flood Resilience Overlay District, dry flood-proofed at least two feet above Sea Level Rise Base Flood Elevation (19.5 ft. BCB). July 19: 776 Summer St (Edison Power Plant) Phase 1 Impact Advisory Group Public Meeting at 6pm. Phase 1 will be located on 8.4 acres / 364,409 square feet within the approximately 15.2 acre (approximately 661,500 square foot) parcel of land known as and numbered 776 Summer Street in South Boston. It includes the rehabilitation of the Edison Turbine Halls 1, 2, and 3 and the construction of the buildings on Blocks D and F.  

July 20th: Blue Bottle (113 Autumn Lane) Abutters Meeting at 4pm. Requesting a Common Victualler License. Public welcome.

July 20th: Madras Dosa Co (55 Wharf Rd) Abutters Meeting at 5pm. Requesting to extend operating hours to 2 AM on weekdays and 3 AM on the weekends plus add third party delivery services. This fast, casual Indian restaurant does not serve alcohol.  Public welcome.

July 20: Moakley Park Design Phase 1 Community Meeting at 6pm. Register.

July 20: BPDA Proposed Zoning Amendments of Floor Area and Other Definitions Public Meeting from 6pm-7:30pm. The proposed amendments will update several terms in the definition sections in Articles 2 and 2A, including Filled and Flowed Tidelands, Gross Floor Area, and Floor Area Ratio (FAR) to make clear that tidelands/land underwater is not included in lot area and FAR calculations and that above-grade parking structures are included in Gross Floor Area. July 27: 7 Channel Center (Notice of Project Change) Public Meeting from 6pm - 8pm. The proposed project is to redevelop 7 Channel Center Street in the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston (the “Redevelopment Site”), by constructing a new office/research and development (“R&D”) building. July 27 - August 4th: Better Bike Lanes Are Coming to A Street. The Boston Transportation Department is hosting a variety of times to talk with you in the A Street Park. 

August 1: Grace by Nia Abutters Meeting at 5pm. 1 Seaport Square (part of the former movie theater space). Requesting a 7 day All Alcoholic Beverages License, Live & non-live Entertainment License. Come meet the Tishman Speyer/Breakthrough Properties project team to learn about this 2.5 acre Life Sciences project within the 100 Acres Master Plan.

August 2: National Night Out in South Boston at Moakley Park (near JFK/Umass T stop) from 5pm - 8pm. Meet Mayor Michelle Wu,incoming Police Commissioner Michael Cox, BPD Command Staff, and your neighbors! Free kids’ activities, food and entertainment! Awards for Boston’s crime watch groups! June 29: Mayor Wu's Neighborhood Coffee Hour at Medal of Honor Park (East 3rd & M Streets) from 9:30 am - 10:30 am. It is a unique opportunity to speak directly with the Mayor and staff from City departments about open space and your neighborhood. Dunkin’ will be on-site to keep Bostonians runnin’ with coffee and MUNCHKINS® donut hole treats. In addition, each family in attendance will receive a free flowering plant provided by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, while supplies last. 

July 7: Seaport Circle (701 Congress) Impact Advisory Group Public Meeting at 6pm.The Project will construct a 13-story laboratory/research & development and office building located on Parcel H totaling approximately 587,000 GFA, a two-story job training/non-profit center on an adjacent parcel totaling approximately 16,000 GFA, and an elevated walkway that connects these two buildings and surrounding properties. This 1 million square feet+ mixed-use development is composed of a residential building, an office building and a laboratory/research and development Life Sciences building plus required parks and open space. 

12 Farnsworth is an office to office/labs Life Sciences conversion located at 12-22 Farnsworth St, and is scheduled to be at Zoning Board of Appeals on February 15th. 51 Melcher Street is a conversion of an existing approximately 97,000 square foot office building at 51-61 Melcher Street to life science use. The project will be undergoing BPDA  Article 80 public review. An Expanded Project Notification Form was filed in December and is available here. A PDA amendment filed March 3, 2022.

17 - 31 Farnsworth St: Toronto-based real estate investment firm BentallGreenOak is proposing to replace a parking garage on Farnsworth Street in Fort Point with a four-story life sciences building. The new building, located at 17-31 Farnsworth St., would include just over 78,000 square feet of floor space, according to a letter of intent filed with the Boston Planning and Development Agency that was published Friday. The parking garage now at the site is six stories tall, including rooftop parking, with spots for 361 vehicles.
