Melcher St & A Street Reconstruction Updates

The Congress Street in Fort Point project will reconstruct Congress Street, Sleeper Street, and A Street. Melcher Street is in tandem. 

Week of April 13, 2026

Begin reconstructing a portion of the sidewalk and curb on the north side of Melcher Street. This work will create additional street parking to mitigate parking removal on A Street. The construction on Melcher Street is permitted for working hours from 7:30am-3:30pm.

Begin construction on A Street. Keep an eye out for notice of parking removal, which will be posted 48 hours in advance of work.

Week of April 20, 2026

Continue construction on Melcher Street and A Street.

TRAVEL IMPACTS
Temporary parking restrictions and traffic patterns may be required during working hours from 9:30am-3:30pm on A Street and 7:30am-3:30pm on Melcher Street. All parking restrictions will be posted with at least 48 hours notice. Please observe any posted construction signage.

Have You Checked Your Car? Don't Get Towed.

If you are parked on A Street, Congress Street or Sleeper Street, check you car for no parking signs while these streets are currently undergoing pre-construction test pit digging as part of the Streets Reconstruction Project. Even if your car is still buried under snow, it could get towed. 

Pre-construction activities is occurring now through March. The project will include construction of curbs on Melcher Street in the Spring.

May 31: Mayor Wu's South Boston Coffee Hour at the Medal of Honor Park from 9:30am to 10:30am. It' a great opportunity to talk to the Mayor and City department heads about neighborhood issues and ideas. You can even get a free plant grown by the Parks Department.

May 31: Comment deadline on the Cannabis Zoning Amendment to remove 1/2 mile buffer between establishments. The intent of the existing buffer zone is to prevent cannabis establishments from opening in clusters to ensure that no particular neighborhood would become the center for cannabis shops, and to ensure that dispensaries are spread out in the city, while allowing access to patients and customers. View amendment and public meeting. June 6: Life Science Public Safety In Person Public Meeting at 6pm at 105 W 1st St. This  is a public meeting in partnership with the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), Boston Fire Department, and Boston Emergency Medical Services to discuss the public safety protocols and regulatory responsibilities currently in place for the Boston Life Sciences industry.

Traffic Advisory: Lane Reduction on Congress Street Friday 1/6 through Monday 1/9

A Traffic Advisory from the Seaport TMA
Please be advised that starting Friday 1/6 through the early morning of Monday 1/9, Congress Street in the Seaport will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction for one block between Boston Wharf Road and Pier Four Boulevard. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north side of Congress Street.

Timing: Congress Street Lane Reduction: Friday 1/6 11:59 p.m. to Monday 1/9 5:00 a.m.

Purpose: This lane reduction is to accommodate for the removal of a tower crane as part of the ongoing 400 Summer Street construction. The workzone will be restored to its current condition by 5 a.m. on Monday 1/9.

Tree Hearing To Remove Trees On Congress Street

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 2, 2014, to discuss the proposed removal of public shade trees in Boston.  The hearing will be held in the 3rd floor Conference Room of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department located at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, Roxbury.  

At 10:45 a.m. a hearing will be held to consider a request for removal of three honey locust trees measuring 4 inches dbh in the vicinity of 320 Congress Street, two maple trees measuring 4 to 7 inches dbh in the vicinity of 342 Congress Street, and four Bradford Pear trees measuring 3 inches dbh in the vicinity of 347 Congress Street.

Public testimony will be taken at the hearing, or may be provided prior to the hearing in writing to the Tree Warden, Boston Parks and Recreation Department, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 3rd floor, Boston, MA 02118 or by emailing parks@boston.gov with Tree Hearings in the subject line. 

Final decisions regarding the requests will be made within two weeks of the hearings.  For further information, please contact the Tree Warden at (617) 635-7275.
