First Snow Day & Other Happenings This Week & Next

With thoughts of snow days and winter festivities, here is a round up of free art happenings, Holiday Pop-Ups and Holiday Strolls in Seaport and Fort Point starting Friday, December 6th through Thursday, December 12th with some repeating weekend events.  

Transit is one of the top issues in the neighborhood. The Seaport Fort Point Transit Strategic Plan Public Community meeting will be held December 9th. The final Mayoral Advisory Task Force Northern Avenue Bridge meeting is Tuesday, December 10th.

Friday, December 6th: Seaport Holiday Stroll, 5 pm – 9 pm with Light Up Seaport tree lighting at 7:15 pm. Live music, store specials and treats. More details.

Friday, December 6th: Rubaru Roshini Special Screening, 6 pm at Midway Artist Studios, 15 Channel Center Street. Free. View trailer.

Saturday, December 7th: Holly-Day on the Harbor, an afternoon of kids holiday fun 12 pm - 2 pm at Atlantic Wharf's Waterfront Square.

Holiday Pop-Up Shops

  • FPAC Assemblage Art Space at the Envoy: Sat & Sundays 12 pm to 4 pm in December. Every weekend different FPAC artists participate in these Tabletop Holiday Pop-Ups. 70 Sleeper St.
  • Row 34: Sundays December 8th and December 15th from 4 pm to 6 pm. Sip on complimentary bubbles & snacks while shopping for unique gifts made by local artists. 383 Congress St.

Monday, December 9th: Seaport Transit Strategic Plan Community Meeting (transit improvements & connectivity in Seaport & Fort Point) 5:30 pm-7:30 pm, BSA Fort Point room, 290 Congress St.

Tuesday, December 10thNorthern Avenue Bridge Mayoral Advisory Task Force Meeting, 3 pm - 5 pm at WPI Seaport, 303 Congress St. Public is welcome to attend.

Tuesday, December 10th: Fort Point Theatre Channel presents Andrew Neuman: Two Video Project(ions) 8pm in Art Under The Stairs at Midway Artist Studios, 15 Channel Center St. Free. 

Wednesday, December 11th: Friends of Fort Point Channel Holiday Stroll 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. Over 25 participating locations. Meet & greet with Olaf from Frozen. Details

Thursday, December 12th: Fort Point Channel Landmarks District Commission meeting 6pm, City Hall. Check FortPointBoston.com for details later this week.

Saturday, December 14th: 249 A Street Artists Holiday Sale & Open Studios.  A select group of artists will open their studios between noon and 5 pm. Visit "Paper Clips" exhibit in the gallery. 


UPCOMING

Monday, December 16th: Boston Tea Party Reenactment starts at 6:30 pm at Old South Meeting Hall and ends with public viewing along the Fort Point Channel across from the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum from 8 pm to 8:30 pm.

Tuesday, December 17th: please note that the City Cannabis Community meeting for 324 A Street is postponed at the request of the operator in order to review the new cannabis ordinance that passed by City Council and signed by Mayor Walsh in November 2019.

Wednesday, December 18th: 15 Necco (former GE Headquarters) Public Community meeting, hosted by the BPDA (Boston Planning & Development Agency) 6pm at 300 A Street.

Getting Festive Fort Point Style

Looking to get in the holiday spirit without leaving the neighborhood or going to a mall? The artists, restaurants and stores of Fort Point are offering numerous opportunities this week and weekend to bring you good cheer. 

The Friends of the Fort Point Channel's eighth annual Fort Point Holiday Stroll takes place Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Explore Fort Point restaurants, stores and pop-up shops such as an artist pop up at Mayhew Wine Shop. Enjoy local treats, drinks and holiday delights. Pick up a stroll map at anyone of the participating locations and enter the Friends' raffle. 
More than twenty artists at the 249 A Street Cooperative will open their doors for the 249 A Street Holiday Art Sale on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 11 am to 5 pm. Find handmade gifts for the hardest to shop for on your list. All gifts are made by the artists at Fort Point's original artist studios. Shop in a relaxed studio setting, meet the artists, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Free (including parking) and open to the public.  
Don't miss the ICA Holiday Market  for more gifts and live music this Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm at 25 Harbor Shore Drive. 

Mayor Walsh’s annual tree lighting starts at 12 pm on December 9, 2018 at Medal of Honor (M) Park. There will be goats, ponies, balloon animals, refreshments and more to celebrate the season. M Park is located at 800 East Broadway.  
Row 34 restaurant is helping you get festive each Sunday in December from 4 pm to 6 pm. Swing by for free small bites and bevvies while finding the perfect gifts made by local Fort Point artists for everyone on your list! Discover when you favorite art maker will be at Row 34 Holiday Pop-Up Shops.

It's Time To Put On Your Holiday Walking Shoes


Start by walking over to the South Boston Christmas Stroll Thursday, November 30, 2017. Festivities start at 4 pm at the South Boston Library and carolers will be strolling around East & West Broadway entertaining all in anticipation of Santa's arrival at 5 pm. Bringing Up Baby is hosting puppet shows beginning at 5:30 pm. Don't forget to check out the Shop, Sip and Dine deals. In addition, the South Boston Arts Association gallery, Arts Around the Corner, will be open from 4 pm  - 7 pm at 317 E Street. 


Friday, December 1st marks the second annual tree lighting at Seaport Common (85 Northern Ave). Join your neighbors from 6 pm - 8 pm for holiday tunes by Rich Dimare, sips and treats from Seaport restaurants and giveaways. Light Up Seaport benefits Massachusetts Fallen Heroes and The Galvin Foundation. Register for this free event

Mayor Walsh invites you to the annual South Boston Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 3rd at Medal of Honor (M) Park. There will be ponies (yes, ponies), ballon animals, music, refreshments and more. The free event starts at noon and is part of the 22nd Enchanted Trolley Tour bringing holiday spirit to children across Boston.

Shop Local: Unique Handmade Gifts by Local Artisans

Holiday Pop Ups kick off this weekend and run through December 17th. These special gift buying events are hosted by the Fort Point Arts Community (FPAC) at the fpac space at the Envoy on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 pm - 6 pm, and by Row 34 at their restaurant on Sundays from 4 pm -  6 pm.

The Artist Cooperative at 249 A Street is hosting a Holiday Studio Sale: Friday, December 8th from 4 pm - 8 pm in conjunction with the Fort Point Holiday Stroll and on Saturday, December 9 from noon to 5 pm.

Don't take off those walking shoes yet, you will want to stroll through historic Fort Point sampling treats, shopping and being entertained by live music during the Fort Point Holiday Stroll hosted by the Friends of Fort Point Channel Friday, December 8th from 4 pm - 7 pm. Made In Fort Point Grand Opening

Fort Point artists and the Fort Points Arts Community (FPAC) kick off October with the Grand Opening of their Made In Fort Point store. Tonight's Grand Opening features an artist's talk and a wearable art exhibition.

Throughout the evening, "Wear Your Art on Your Sleeve: A Presentation of Wearable Pieces" will include Fort Point artists showing their locally made, one-of-a-kind clothing as a preview of Boston Fashion Week. Margaret DeBruin shows upcycled children's clothing and accessories, Jen Mecca brings her hand-dyed shibori scarves, Amy Nguyen presents sculptural and functional cloth pieces, Anh and Philip Sawyer display their apparel for men and women, and Jen Stark introduces her fall sweater line.

At 6 pm, Liliana Folta will give an artist talk in celebration of her public art installation "Flower Blanket - The Farewell to Summer", a nostalgic representation of the end of a season – bright colors, robust gardens and sunny days. "Flower Blanket" is on view at the West Service Road entrance of the store. 

Food is generously provided by Row 34 located close by on Congress Street. The event is sponsored by Gerding Edlen, the Barking Crab, and the New England Foundation for the Arts. For more grand opening details visit FPAC,
