Plan on voting in the upcoming Boston mayoral & City Council preliminary election on September 14, 2021? 

In addition to choosing a Mayor from the seven who are running, there are seventeen candidates vying for four City Councilor-At-Large seats. Did you recently move or has it been awhile since you last voted? Check your voting status. The deadline to register or update your information for September 14th election was Wednesday, August 25th. The November 2nd election registration deadline is 8pm on October 13, 2021.

Starts on Saturday, September 4, and runs through Friday, September 10. Please note: Any voter registered in Boston can vote at any early voting location.

Boston City Hall is the main early voting polling location. City Hall will be open for voting Tuesday through Friday (Labor Day is Monday, September 6). City Hall will be open for early voting on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am - 8 pm, and on Wednesday and Friday from 9 am - 5pm.

If you plan to return your ballot in person instead of mailing it, there will be dedicated drop boxes (locations tbd) across the City, including Boston City Hall. You have until 8 p.m. on Election Day to drop off your ballot. You can also drop off your ballot at any early voting location during the City's early voting period.

A Conversation in Civic Innovation: Libraries as Drivers of Civic Engagement

What is missing in the neighborhood? An anchor civic building or in other words, a library. 

Microsoft Innovation and Policy Center New England is hosting a Conversation in Civic Innovation: Libraries as Drivers of Civic Engagement on Wednesday, January 16th at District Hall, thought to be a prime future location for a local library by many in the neighborhood. 

The evening event (5:30 pm - 7:30 pm) will be moderated by Kim Lucas, City of Boston Department of Information Technology. The panelists are: David Leonard, Boston Public Library; Dan Cohen, Northeastern Library; Chris Colbert, Harvard Innovation Labs and Elizabeth Soeiro, Cambridgeport School librarian.

The discussion will address libraries as drivers of civic engagement in the following areas:

• The role of space and place;
• The role of data and technology;
• The shift of offerings;
• The role of libraries in maintaining equitable access to key resources.

Common Boston Festival This Weekend In Fort Point & Beyond

The Common Boston Festival, a program of the BSA Foundation, is a unique opportunity to discover and explore the region's rich architectural, cultural, and historic resources. From innovative wood shops and rooftop gardens to 300 year old houses and Tiffany stained glass adorned sacred spaces, Common Boston's diverse range of sites sheds light on the great and hidden architecture of Boston. The design of Boston's leading center for architecture and design creates a single gesture of a soffit, a monumental stair, and a billboard to make BSA Space both visible and accessible to the public. BSA Space is home to the Boston Society of Architects/AIA and the BSA Foundation. The space hosts exhibitions, walking tours, and other programs that encourage collaboration. The exhibition currently on view is The New Inflatable Moment, which explores the resurgence of inflatable installations in

This 4,300 square foot space is an open design suitable for building 10-foot wooden skiffs. The construction process of the boats teaches Boston Public Schools students about teamwork, mathematics, design, and spatial relations. It helps to fire students’ imaginations, provide access to launch boats, and give students a place to assess the marine environment. Community Boat Building is able to occupy its current space through offsets stipulated by the Chapter 91 Public Waterfront Act. Wheelchair Accessible. Built in 2014.

Built on the site of the former waterfront rail yards, the building is inspired by the area’s industrial past. It is composed of two basic volumes: a long, low bar references box cars that once populated the site, and an angular shell recalls the shipping industry’s boats and waterfront warehouses. District Hall is the first freestanding, city-championed innovation center of its kind in the country. Inside, find a restaurant and café, workspaces, and classrooms. District Hall’s mission is to build, strengthen, and connect individuals and communities of innovators.Wheelchair Accessible,  Built in 2013, designed by Hacin + Associates.

L Street Power Station

Built at the turn of the 19th century as a power plant that supplied much of Boston’s growing energy needs, L Street Power Station was operated as a power plant through the beginning of the 21st century. It was purchased in a joint venture between Hilco and Redgate in April 2016 who plan to redevelop it into a vibrant, arts- and industry-themed, mixed-use project that celebrates its special history. The main turbine hall of the station is open to CB17 visitors. Built in 1903, designed by Boston Electric Company.

Built in the 1950s to serve fishermen, longshoremen, and their families, the Chapel moved to a new site this year to better serve local workers. The new chapel retains much of its nautical heritage with a ceiling patterned after the hull of a ship and walls inscribed with the prayer “They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters…” It is a beautiful house of prayer, intimate in size, but majestic in its elements. Wheelchair Accessible. Built in 2017, designed by Cram and Ferguson Architects.

Boston Through Vanderwarker's Lens: New Ideas About An Old City

Renowned photographer Peter Vandwarker will share his unique perspective gained from years of capturing the heart of Boston with his camera at the Boston Preservation Alliance annual meeting on  March 30, 2015. He will discuss how preparation for 2024 and beyond might impact the evolution of the city’s character.

The event will take place Monday night at 6pm at District Hall located at 75 Northern Ave, Boston. Current Boston Preservation Alliance members attend for free! Please RSVP. Not a member? ONEin3 Presents the #HUBisHome House Party at District Hall August 24th

The 2014 ONEin3 Council is inviting Bostonians to participate in the #HUBisHome House Party on Sunday August 24, 2014, at District Hall in Boston’s Innovation District from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm.

Mayor Walsh Launches Civic Academies

Mayor Marty Walsh is looking to cultivate civic leaders by giving Boston residents an opportunity to collaborate with local government and to create learning opportunities to support civic engagement and community service. In turn the City will better understand how to serve Boston residents.

The first free workshop will focus on Social Media for Community Empowerment: Tools & Best Practices for Building Successful Digital Engagement. The format will include presentations from City officials, open discussions and a chance to help shape the future of the Civic Academy initiative.

Gather Hosts Welcome Wednesdays #3 at District Hall

Gather hosts their third Welcome Wednesdays with special guests, Caught in Southie on Wednesday, April 9th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at District Hall. District Hall is located at 75 Northern Ave Boston, MA 02210.  

The free event will feature a pop-up shopping event highlighting some of South Boston's most popular retailers! Shops include Pretty Reckless, KuDeTa, Covet, Closet Connection and Habit. Salon De Cheveux will be hosting a Beauty Bar featuring buns, braids & spring make-up. A raffle will be held to benefit the families of Lt Walsh and Firefighter Kennedy. The first 200 guests will receive a Caught in Southie tote bag filled with special gifts.
