It starts Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 6 pm - 8 pm with the opening reception of Paper Chase 2016 at the FPAC Gallery at 300 Summer Street. On sale are over 50 works on paper, including prints, drawings, watercolors, photographs, and handmade paper. All priced at $100. The exhibition benefits the Fort Point Arts Community. Works will be on sale through December 23d.

On Thursday, December 15th from 6 pm to 8 pm, visit the Gallery At 249 A for the opening reception of The Colors of Nature: Dorothy Hebden Heath & Caroline Muir. 249 A Holiday Sale: December 16th from 4 pm - 8 pm and Saturday, December 17th from 12 pm - 5 pm. Fort Point’s original artists' building will hold a mini-open studios for holiday shopping. More than twenty artists, both cooperative members and invited guests, will be opening their doors in the building. Visitors can find handmade gifts of art, craft, and design made by local artists in one building in the historic Fort Point neighborhood of South Boston. Shop in a relaxed studio setting, meet the artists, and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

Rooster Tails and the Fort Point Theatre Channel present A Surreal Soiree: An Evening of Beatniks, Clowns and Cleopatra Friday at 8 pm at Art Under The Stairs, Midway Artist Studios, 15 Channel Center Street. It will be a Cacophonous Cabaret of sound and light. movies, music, and performance by Mick Cusimano and friends. More details.

243d Boston Tea Party Re-enactment: Presented by Old South Meeting House and the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, the Annual Boston Tea Party Reenactment is a chance for the public to join in on one of Boston’s most iconic protests. Re-enactors from across New England come together to tell the story of the Boston Tea Party and dramatize the evening of December 16, 1773. Head to the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum by 8 pm and watch as the Sons of Liberty storm aboard the Brig Beaver to destroy chest after chest of East India Company Tea. More details.

This special event includes an artist talk by Amy and displays hand made designs in clothing, accessories, and jewelry by designers: Amy Nguyen, Alys Myers, Dawna Davis, Anh Sawyer, Jenifer Stark, Philip Sawyer and Carol Bugarin.

Art Happenings You Won't Want To Miss

If you missed Sowa Artists Guild's First Fridays June 5th at 450 Harrison Street in the South End and last weekend's South Boston Open Studios at the Distillery and at 555 Gallery, you won't want to miss:.  

Tuesday, June 9th from 5pm -7pm is the opening reception of "Mentor", a juried exhibition featuring works by eight Fort Point artist/educators and their students, at the Atlantic Wharf Gallery. RSVP. Show runs through June 19th.

Made in Fort Point hosts their June featured artist of the month, Liliana Folta, at an opening reception on  Wednesday, June 10th from 5 pm - 7 pm. RSVP. Liliana Folta was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has lived and worked in Fort Point at Midway Artist Studios since 2009 and soon will relocate her studio to Berlin, Germany. Liliana studied Fine Arts and ceramics at Tarrant County College NE Texas, where she received an “Outstanding Merit Award” and a “Distinguished Scholarship.”  The Made in Fort Point store sells and exhibits art, craft and design of over 50 Fort Point Arts Community members.

The FPAC Gallery presents "Drawing & Sparring”, an exhibit featuring work by Fort Point artists inspired by the art of boxing. The opening reception is Thursday, June 11th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at 300 Summer St. RSVP.  The exhibit is on view through July 2, 2015.

There will also be a Fort Point Public Art Walking Tour on Thursday starting at 5 pm at A St. and Necco Ct. to view five art installations and hear from the artists. The tour will end at the FPAC Galley at 6:30 pm. RSVP

Tired of thinking about snow? This Thursday, March 5, 2015 take yourself out for an evening art stroll about Fort Point. There are four art openings to lift your spirits, intrigue, and inspire you. 

Glean at FPAC Gallery

The FPAC Gallery at 300 Summer opens with "Glean", an exhibition of the work of Sharon Freed, Walter Kopec and Andrew Neumann. "Glean" runs through April 16, 2015. RSVP to attend Thursday night's reception from 5pm - 7pm. 

Fish and Chicks at FP3 Gallery

Take the Summer Street bridge stairs down to 346 Congress Street for the FP3 Gallery opening of Fish and Chicks, new work by Joanne Kaliontzis on view through May 27th. The gallery opening reception is from 6pm - 8pm. 

Cross Congress to A Street and go "Outside the Lines" with Made In Fort Point's March featured artist, Rebecca Leviss Dwyer. The Made In Fort Point store is located at the rear of 315 on A (315 A Street). RSVP to attend their 5pm - 7pm reception. 

Kelly Carmody at Walter Feldman Gallery

Continue walking down A Street to Channel Center Street and the Arts and Business Council's Walter Feldman Gallery located at Midway Artist Studios, 15 Channel Center Street in suite 103. Kelly Carmody: Deeper Sense is the first solo exhibition of the Walter Feldman Fellowship for Emerging Artists, and is on view through April 7, 2015. RSVP to the opening reception, which goes from 5:30pm until 7:30pm.

Fort Point Open Studios Starts Tonight

The thirty-fifth annual Fort Point Open Studios kicks off tonight with a preview of artists' studios, galleries and group shows from 4 pm to 7 pm. At 8 pm at Atlantic Wharf, the Fort Point Theatre Channel presents "In The Summer House", a play about the mysterious and powerful relationship between mothers and their daughters. All Fort Point Open Studios' events are free and open to the public.

The Fort Point Fall Open Studios is one of Fort Point Arts Community's (FPAC) largest events that showcases the vibrant artist community. Over 150 artists will open their studios. It is an opportunity to meet the artists where they create; see amazing art in Fort Point's historic warehouses; and buy local, original art from the people who make it. In addition, there will be numerous performances, artists’ demos, and art-making for all ages throughout the weekend.  

Come be a part of Boston's original Open Studios. More information on participating artists, public art and special events. Free parking is available at the Binford and A Street parking lot on the left. Don't forget to visit the new Made In Fort Point store at 315 on A Street rear for more local art, crafts, jewelry and clothing.

Throughout the evening, "Wear Your Art on Your Sleeve: A Presentation of Wearable Pieces" will include Fort Point artists showing their locally made, one-of-a-kind clothing as a preview of Boston Fashion Week. Margaret DeBruin shows upcycled children's clothing and accessories, Jen Mecca brings her hand-dyed shibori scarves, Amy Nguyen presents sculptural and functional cloth pieces, Anh and Philip Sawyer display their apparel for men and women, and Jen Stark introduces her fall sweater line.

At 6 pm, Liliana Folta will give an artist talk in celebration of her public art installation "Flower Blanket - The Farewell to Summer", a nostalgic representation of the end of a season – bright colors, robust gardens and sunny days. "Flower Blanket" is on view at the West Service Road entrance of the store.

Tonight: Lisa Greenfield at Made in Fort Point

Made in Fort Point (the FPAC store) will be exhibiting the paintings of Lisa M. Greenfield, "On The Edge" for the month of September. Greenfield's paintings explore themes of color, surface, space, and edge. A twist on the urban landscape, Greenfield's minimal approach to architecture, with subtle use of color and form, creates spatial ambiguities and shifts or foreground and background.

Lisa Greenfield is an artist and urban planner with a BA in Fine Arts from Brandeis University. She has been an active member of the Fort Point Arts Community for many years. Greenfield has received numerous grants and awards, including most recently the St. Botolph Club Foundation 2011 Emerging Artist Award.  Show dates: Sept 1 - Sept 30, 2011

rewind: Former FP Artists Show: Opening 8/12

When artists first began moving into the Fort Point Channel section of Boston, they were true pioneers, showing the way for communities nationwide to rejuvenate old manufacturing properties for use as art studios and meccas. The Fort Point neighborhood, with its warehouses and lofts, was the home of thousands of artists since approximately 1975.

Adam Yothers is the featured artist for November at Made in Fort Point, the FPAC store. There will be an opening on November 5th.

Adam runs printing studio Dyslexicpress which he describes as:

"'The Dyslexic Press,' besides being a provocative name, is about the printing of a visual language. Dyslexia is an impairment comprehending written language. While not dyslexic myself, I'm interested in exploring the visual language generated by our culturally loaded imagery and iconography."

Made In Fort Point features new work by Bonnie Mineo for the month of May. Her vibrant prints reflect a love of color and response to details in the landscape. Bonnie has been developing a low tech process with water-based inks and polystyrene plates which result in relief prints rich in color with layered shapes, textures and marks. The process allows for spontaneity, accidents and intentions to come together in creating unique prints without a press.

Bonnie teaches Mixed Media/Collage and Water-based Printmaking here in Fort Point with the Fort Point Studio School and at DeCordova Museum.
