Don't Miss Midway Gallery's PROGRESSION Closing Reception July 23rd

The Midway Gallery invites you to the Closing Reception of:

PROGRESSION
by Olga Shmuylovich
in collaboration with Petra Dankova and the late Nikolay Cherny

July 23, 2026
6pm to 8pm
Film Screening at 7pm
The Art Tunnel @ Midway Gallery
Midway Artist Studios
15 Channel Center Street

“Permanence of Progression is the intrinsic feature of making Art – where ever transubstantiating matter of art-making is artists’ reflection on the world we find ourselves in while being an inseparable part of this world.” — Olga Shmuylovich

Step into PROGRESSION, a site-specific installation by Olga Shmuylovich that strategically utilizes a "tunnel effect" to guide viewers into an enveloping, evolving environment. Viewers will encounter a sequence of expressive gesture sketches on black paper—captured during live figure drawing sessions at Midway—complemented by white paper face reliefs that pull the urgency of the human form directly into the viewer's physical space. At the end of the Art Tunnel under a luminous "EXIT" sign, a structural piece carries a collective human and artistic weight, echoing themes from the artist’s previous projects while simultaneously pulsing with the vibrant energy of current moments and the natural progression of the creator.

Ultimately, PROGRESSION offers a universally soothing reminder that art can ditch the pressure of rigid perfectionism and expectation—exploring the comfort found when the raw, unpolished process of making art becomes the ultimate destination.

Fort Point Channel Watersheet Activation Grants Available

Bolstering the Janey Administration's ongoing work to create a waterfront that is accessible to all, the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) and the Fort Point Channel Operations Board are accepting applications for the 2021 Fort Point Channel Watersheet Activation Grant Program.

Now in its tenth year, the program provides financial resources for capital improvements and public programming within and along the Fort Point Channel, as envisioned in the Fort Point Channel Watersheet Activation Plan. The plan was established in 2002 through a collaborative effort between the BPDA, City of Boston, landowners, nonprofit and cultural leaders, and residents to encourage new cultural activities and year-round programming in Fort Point.

Approximately $50,000 is available to organizations for the 2021 grant cycle. The competitive grant seeks creative proposals for water-based programming in and around Fort Point that will benefit the general public, including such things as new water-based infrastructure, public events, art installations, and educational opportunities.

To be eligible, an organization must be tax-exempt or operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a tax-exempt nonprofit. For-profit organizations may be eligible for funding at the discretion of the Fort Point Channel Operations Board if the project constitutes a not-for-profit, public project.

Applications are due on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 5 PM. Funding for the grants stems from the Chapter 91 Waterways Regulations License for Atlantic Wharf, a project developed by Boston Properties.

It's The Weekend Art Party

It is Friday. It is the start of the weekend. More importantly it is the weekend after Columbus Day. If you have lived or worked in Fort Point for any of the past 38 years, you know that means Fort Point Open Studios hosted by your artist neighbors and the Fort Point Arts Community (FPAC). If you are new to Fort Point or never been to Open Studios, be ready to see art in the streets, in the Channel, in galleries and in artist studios. Best of all it is free until you are inspired to make that first purchase of art, of course.

Tonight before hitting the bars, visit select artist studios until 7 pm and don't miss the Grand Opening of The FPAC Space at the Envoy Hotel from 6 pm - 8 pm.

Did you know Fort Point is home to three buildings dedicated to artists? 249 A Street Artist Cooperative arrived first in the mid eighties followed by The Artist Building at 300 Summer Street ten years later and Midway Artist Studios located at 15 Channel Center Street in 2005.

On Saturday, October 14 and Sunday October 15, 2017 from noon to 6 pm, explore over a hundred artist studios, see art demos, hear live musical performances and learn about art directly from the artist. Whether you are looking to start an art collection or add to it, buy one-of-a-kind gifts or just want to do something cool this weekend, check out the complete list of activities (for kids too), galleries and open studios in the Fort Point Fall Open Studios brochure. Free parking available at the P&G Gillette lots at Binford & A Streets.

End your Saturday night at the Distillery Gallery's 10 year birthday celebration from 7 pm - 11 pm. The Distillery is located at 516 E 2nd Street.
