The FORT POINT CHANNEL LANDMARK DISTRICT COMMISSION will hold a public hearing:

After 5:30 p.m., enter and exit City Hall at the Dock Square entrance on Congress Street

 (across from Faneuil Hall).

Subject of the hearing will be applications for Certificates of Design Approval on the agenda below, review of architectural violations and such business as may come before the commission, in accordance with Ch. 772 of the Acts of 1975, as amended. Applications are available for review during normal business hours at the office of the Environment Department. Applicants or their representatives are required to attend, unless indicated otherwise below. Sign-language interpreters are available upon request.

Administrative Review / Approval: In order to expedite the review process, the commission has delegated the approval of certain work items, such as those involving ordinary maintenance and repair, restoration or replacement, or which otherwise have a minimal impact on a building’s appearance, to the staff pending ratification at its monthly public hearing. Having been identified as meeting these eligibility criteria and all relevant guidelines, the following applications will be approved at this hearing:

MA State Primary Tuesday, September 9th

Vote Tuesday, September 9, 2014 for Democratic or Republication candidates to represent their party in the November 4th election. The positions on the primary ballot are: US Senator, eighth district US Congress Representative (Stephen Lynch running unopposed), Governor, Lt. Crossroads Initiative Community Meeting

The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) will be holding a community meeting to discuss the progress of the Crossroads Initiative on Summer and Congress Streets on:

The Crossroads Initiative in the Fort Point Channel will accent the connection between South Station and the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the Fort Point Channel via Summer St. It will add new street lighting, street trees and other landscaping, improved pedestrian accessibility and a 2-way cycle track to Summer Street.  On Congress St, the project will focus on accessibility and consistency of materials including pavement, crosswalks, and lighting as well as providing better vehicular access and signalization to facilitate this important connection between South Boston, the interstate highway system, truck routes, and Downtown.

The last Crossroads community update occurred at the FPNA monthly neighborhood meeting on April 29, 2014.

Project Description: BRG 319A, LLC has proposed to rehabilitate the existing building at 319 A Street to allow commercial uses on the ground floor and residential uses on the upper floors. The Project will include approximately 48 residential units and approximately 5,000 square feet of gross floor area devoted to ground floor commercial space that is anticipated to be occupied by a restaurant. The project will involve a thorough renovation of the building interior, restoration of the historic facades including historically sensitive modifications and repairs to the building exterior such as the replacement of the damaged and deteriorated windows and doors, and the construction of an outdoor dining terrace for use by prospective restaurant tenants. There will be no expansion of the existing building envelope, with the exception of a new stairway headhouse and new elevator vestibule that will allow access to the roof. The Proponent has also submitted a Planned Development Area development plan for the proposed Project.

Summer To Go Out With A Bang

The City of Boston and Summer on the Waterfront will be celebrating Labor Day with fireworks on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 9 pm on the Boston Harbor. The fireworks mark the finale of Summer on the Waterfront events. The fireworks barge will be moored off of Fan Pier. 

Best local viewing: The Harborwalk from Fort Point to the Seaport, Fan Pier, Castle Island, waterfront restaurants or a cruise. The fireworks display coincides with the annual Boston “Ahts” Festival at Christopher Columbus Park and  St. Anthony’s Feast on Endicott Street in Boston’s North End. 

The fireworks are sponsored by Boston Harbor Cruises, the Boston Harbor Hotel, the Boston Globe and the City of Boston.

The 2014 ONEin3 Council is inviting Bostonians to participate in the #HUBisHome House Party on Sunday August 24, 2014, at District Hall in Boston’s Innovation District from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm.

New Residential Project Approved for South Boston

The BRA Board approves $160 million in new projects including a residential project in South Boston at 30 B Street.

The BRA Board approved the construction of 32 condominiums, four of which will be affordable units, at 30 B Street in South Boston. The project at the corner of B Street and West Sixth Street will raze three existing one-story structures to make way for a five-story residential building that includes 33 on-site and off-street parking spaces, enclosed bicycle parking, and open space improvements. The transit-oriented development will be within walking distance of the Broadway Station on the MBTA Red Line and will be served by three bus lines that provide transportation to downtown Boston, Cambridge, and other areas of South Boston.

As currently proposed, the development includes ten one-bedroom units, fourteen two-bedroom units, and eight three-bedroom units. In addition to the four on-site affordable units, the developer will contribute $40,000 to the City’s Inclusionary Development Policy Fund for affordable housing.

Lawn on D Grand Opening

Lawn on D next  door to BCEC, 420 D Street

The Lawn on D, a first-of-its-kind outdoor interactive space in Boston, will be opening this Saturday, August 16, 2014 from noon until 11pm with: live music performances , high-energy sets from Mmmmaven DJs, massmouth storytelling, interactive art projects & installations, face-painting, bocce, Ping Pong and other dynamic, community-building activities. Local food and ice cream trucks, as well as beer and wine available for purchase in the tented bar fuel up the fun. The event located at 420 D Street is free and open to the public.
