Summer To Go Out With A Bang

The City of Boston and Summer on the Waterfront will be celebrating Labor Day with fireworks on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 9 pm on the Boston Harbor. The fireworks mark the finale of Summer on the Waterfront events. The fireworks barge will be moored off of Fan Pier. 

Best local viewing: The Harborwalk from Fort Point to the Seaport, Fan Pier, Castle Island, waterfront restaurants or a cruise. The fireworks display coincides with the annual Boston “Ahts” Festival at Christopher Columbus Park and  St. Anthony’s Feast on Endicott Street in Boston’s North End. 

The fireworks are sponsored by Boston Harbor Cruises, the Boston Harbor Hotel, the Boston Globe and the City of Boston.

ONEin3 Presents the #HUBisHome House Party at District Hall August 24th

The 2014 ONEin3 Council is inviting Bostonians to participate in the #HUBisHome House Party on Sunday August 24, 2014, at District Hall in Boston’s Innovation District from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm.

The afternoon will engage young professionals in Boston around the housing issues facing the city in a “House Party” style atmosphere. 

Participants will have the opportunity to delve into the complex aspects of the housing market through interactive maps, house party games, and short “pitch style” presentations from community experts.

New Residential Project Approved for South Boston

The BRA Board approves $160 million in new projects including a residential project in South Boston at 30 B Street.

The BRA Board approved the construction of 32 condominiums, four of which will be affordable units, at 30 B Street in South Boston. The project at the corner of B Street and West Sixth Street will raze three existing one-story structures to make way for a five-story residential building that includes 33 on-site and off-street parking spaces, enclosed bicycle parking, and open space improvements. The transit-oriented development will be within walking distance of the Broadway Station on the MBTA Red Line and will be served by three bus lines that provide transportation to downtown Boston, Cambridge, and other areas of South Boston.

As currently proposed, the development includes ten one-bedroom units, fourteen two-bedroom units, and eight three-bedroom units. In addition to the four on-site affordable units, the developer will contribute $40,000 to the City’s Inclusionary Development Policy Fund for affordable housing.

Join your neighbors for this special outdoor viewing of "Good Will Hunting" in Fort Point's newest park. Bring a blanket and a jacket, it will be in the mid-60s.

Lawn on D Grand Opening

The Lawn on D, a first-of-its-kind outdoor interactive space in Boston, will be opening this Saturday, August 16, 2014 from noon until 11pm with: live music performances , high-energy sets from Mmmmaven DJs, massmouth storytelling, interactive art projects & installations, face-painting, bocce, Ping Pong and other dynamic, community-building activities. Local food and ice cream trucks, as well as beer and wine available for purchase in the tented bar fuel up the fun. The event located at 420 D Street is free and open to the public. Are You Registered To Vote?

Whether you are new to Fort Point or newly eligible to vote, the registration deadline to vote in the September 9, 2014 Massachusetts State Primary is Wednesday, August 20th.

In the primary you will be voting for Democratic or Republication candidates to represent their party for in the November 4th election. The positions on the primary ballot are: US Senator, eighth district US Congress Representative (Steven Lynch running unopposed), Governor, Lt. Governor, 4th Suffolk District State Representative (Nick Collins running unopposed) Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, and more. South Boston Waterfront Transportation Community Meeting Update

The South Boston Waterfront Sustainable Transportation Plan sponsors and A Better City are working on a transportation plan for the future. In the meantime, the participating agencies are making short-term improvements that respond to many of the issues raised at the May 7 Community Meeting. Participants submitted nearly 300 comments and suggestions on issues ranging from transit improvements to pedestrian and bicycle issues to water transportation. 
  
A map on the project website graphically depicts the agency and short to mid-term improvements that are underway. You can see the projects and improvements that the City of Boston; Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the MBTA; Massport; the Seaport TMA; and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority have underway.
  
Completed improvements include traffic signal re-timing and the arrival of three time-to-destination boards for area landmarks to help plan your travel. This fall, real-time arrival and departure countdown signage will be installed in Silver Line Stations.
  
You can provide comments, reactions and suggestions on the website. Feel free to forward this information to friends or neighbors and encourage them to sign up for future updates about the project. 
  
Over the next few months, the team will begin to identify and test strategies to address additional transportation challenges and solutions. In the fall, you will be invited to participate in meetings to continue this discussion. Future meetings will present the preliminary and final recommendations.

Artists in Residence Craft Workshops For Kids

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s annual ParkARTS program, sponsored by Holly and David Bruce, gives children aged three to ten the opportunity to enjoy watercolor painting, mask and jewelry making, treasure bottle creations, and more at Mayor Walsh's Artists in Residence Craft Workshops.  The workshops are from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and will be held in Moakley Park on August 8th and August 15, 2014. Due to unforeseen circumstances today's Artists in Residence Workshop is cancelled. Moakley Park is located at 446 Old Colony Avenue.
