Fort Point Happenings Kick Off Tonight: Conservation Commission, Inundation District (Friday) & More Art

November 19: Conservation Commission Public Hearing at 6pm

The Conservation Commission (ConCom) reviews projects to determine what conditions, if any, the Commission will impose in order to protect the interests of the public and private water supply, groundwater, prevention of pollution, flood control, prevention of storm damage, protection of fisheries and land containing shellfish, and protection of wildlife habitat.

Continuance postponed to a future hearing. 

• Notice of Intent for DEP File No. 006-2073 and BOS File No. 2025-034 from Epsilon Associates on behalf of Channelside Acquisitions, LLC, for the proposed construction of a publicly accessible overlook over the Fort Point Channel; construction of retaining walls, platform, and seating for a future public amphitheater; and minor regrading at 15 Necco Street and 244-284 A Street, South Boston Waterfront, MA (25ft Waterfront Area, LUO, Coastal Bank, 100ft Buffer to Coastal Bank, LSCSF). • Notice of Intent for DEP File No. 006-2XXX and BOS File No. 2025-XXX from Epsilon Associates, Inc. on behalf of Channelside Acquisitions, LLC for the proposed construction of a new bicycle path, subsurface utility connections, pedestrian sidewalk improvements, and minor site grading at 10 Necco Street, South Boston Waterfront, MA (LSCSF). The proponent postponed their appearance last month. 

November 21:  Free Movie Screening of "Inundation District" hosted by Save The Harbor with Q&A with director, David Abel, at 5pm at 15 Necco. "INUNDATION DISTRICT is an award-winning feature-length film about the implications of one city’s decision to ignore the threats posed by climate change and spend billions of dollars on building a new waterfront district — on landfill, at sea level." Light refreshments will be served. Reserve your spot.

November 21: Objects of Devotion Opening, a group exhibition examining the ways in which the routines, rituals, and spiritual underpinnings of our lives enter and exist within the devotional realm, from 6–9pm at The Distillery Gallery, 516 East 2nd St.

Members of the public may share public comments during the hearing. The Conservation Commission will also accept written testimony for agenda items via email at cc@boston.gov prior to the hearing. Written testimony should be submitted by Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.

August 29: 10th Annual Illuminate the Harbor Fireworks Celebration starts at 8:30pm and lights up for thirty minutes. The fireworks are made possible by support from Meet Boston and presented by Boston Harbor Now, Atlas PyroVision, and the City of Boston. Fireworks can be viewed from anywhere on the waterfront. Here are suggested public viewing locations along the Boston Harborwalk:

August 30: FY25 Community Preservation Act Funding Eligibility Determination Deadline. Don't miss out. In the FY 24, District 2 received $3.2 million in CPA funds that improve our neighborhoods and better the quality of life of all residents. The distribution includes the Christopher Lee/N Street Field in South Boston, Phillips Square Plaza in Chinatown, and League of Women in the South End, among others.

Mondays are free outdoor movie nights now through September 23, 2024 at 88 Seaport Blvd. 

The lot will open at 6:00 PM and movies will start at dusk (around 7:00 PM), weather permitting. For a dinner and a movie experience, we encourage you to pack a picnic, pick up food in the neighborhood from one of the many restaurants, or purchase food from on-site concessionaires.

Bring your own chair or blanket to enjoy the movie from the surface area parking lot. Please note the open lot is a mix of pavement and gravel. No chair? No problem. Lawn chairs are available to rent while supplies last. Please select the “Chair Rental” ticket when registering. There is a fee of $10 per chair rental. If you bring your own blanket or chair, please select "Free General Admission" ticket.

August 16: Save the Harbor/Save the Bay hosts their annual Beats On The Beach Block Party on the Channelside Lot (45 Binford St.) from 5:30-9:30PM. The Block Party is a FREE community art celebration organized in collaboration with local artists to put money in the hands of POC creatives and connect people to the Boston waterfront.
