Sunday's St. Patrick's Day Breakfast, Race, Parade & Parking

The St. Patrick's Day Parade is Sunday, March 19, 2023. The 3.5 mile parade will begin at 1 PM at the Broadway T station (red line), move along West Broadway to East Broadway, before making its way around the Medal of Honor Park and ending at Andrew Square. Broadway will be closed to traffic from approximately 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

St. Patrick's Day Parade route

The St. Patrick’s Day Road Race will also take place on Sunday beginning at 11 AM.  Runners will follow the famous parade route, 2 hours before the parade steps off.  The race starts and ends at the Boys & Girls Club (230 West 6th), left on Dorchester St, down E Broadway and back to W Broadway, left on E, left on West 6th, and will end at 12 pm. The turn around point is the Farragut Statue at Pleasure Bay/Boston Harbor. 

Before these two events start is the St. Patrick's Day Breakfast hosted by Senator Collins and broadcast live starting at 10am on Caught in Southie's Instagram page, Irish Hit Parade Radio and Boston Neighborhood Network Media. 

To accommodate the race and parade and staging/dispersal and clean-up, drivers should expect the following roads to be closed to vehicular traffic. Street closures effected by the parade will start as early as 5 AM and streets closures from the road race will start around 9 AM.  Delays are expected on West 6th Street from F to Dorchester and F (odd side only) from 6th to Bowen Street.

The Channelside parking lot at 45 Binford St offers $5 dollar weekend day parking in 24 hour 5am - 5am intervals.

South Boston resident parking sticker holders can find alternate parking accommodations starting at 6pm  Saturday, March 18th through 8pm Sunday, March 19th at the Marine Park Garage at 12 Drydock Ave. 

Other Southie fun facts for March 19th: Liquor Stores will close at 4pm. All bars and restaurants in 02127 will close between 6-6:30pm and patrons will need to leave by 7:30pm. There will be zero tolerance and a $200 citation for public drinking or public cannabis consumption. 

St Patrick's Day / Evacuation Day Parade Is Sunday

The St. Patrick's Day parade returns Sunday, March 20, 2022. The parade will begin at 1 PM starting on West Broadway T Station, continuing to East Broadway and ending at Farragut Road. Broadway will be closed to traffic from approximately 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The Channel Center garage is offering discounted parking of $12/day for South Boston residents and the public. The rate will go in effect starting Friday, 3/18 at 5pm through 3:30am on Monday, 3/21 to allow residents to remove their cars from along the parade and race route. Per Boston Police Department, parking restrictions will start Sunday at 7:30am on A St and on Binford St.

Tishman Speyer & Breakthrough Properties To Develop 2.5 acres of Fort Point Waterfront

Tishman Speyer and Breakthrough Properties today announced the acquisition of a 2.5 acre development site in South Boston’s thriving Fort Point waterfront district.

An affiliate of Breakthrough Properties acquired the site, which is bounded by A Street, Binford Street, the Fort Point Channel and Gillette’s manufacturing campus along the South Boston waterfront, from P&G/Gillette.  Breakthrough Properties is a joint venture formed by Tishman Speyer and biotechnology investment firm Bellco Capital. JLL represented P&G in the sale.

The rectangular-shaped development site is the final waterfront parcel to be developed as part of the city’s 100-Acre Master Plan, which was adopted in 2007 after a comprehensive community planning process. That master plan has served as a blueprint for the gradual transformation of empty parking lots into a thriving innovation district.

Southie St. Patrick's Day Parade & Road Race This Sunday

The St. Patrick's Day parade will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2015. The parade will begin at 1 PM starting on West Broadway at Dorchester Avenue, continuing to East Broadway, and ending at Farragut Road. The St. Patrick’s Day Road Race will also take place on Sunday beginning at 11 AM.   Runners will proceed from West Sixth Street at F Street onto Dorchester Street, right onto East Broadway, down and around the Farragut Statue at Day Boulevard, to East Broadway, right onto West Broadway, left onto E Street, left onto West Sixth Street, ending at the Boys and Girls Club at #230 West Sixth Street.

To accommodate the two events, staging/dispersal and clean-up, drivers should expect the following roads to be closed to vehicular traffic. Streets effected by the parade will close no later than 12 PM and streets effected by the road race will close no later than 10 AM.

South Boston Emergency Street Reconfiguration, Parking Ban, & MBTA Service Suspended

Updated 2/17/15 Parking ban will be lifted at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 18th. At most garages and lots, parkers have until 8:00 pm to remove their cars. Exceptions are noted below. For MBTA service updates visit MBTA.

Mayor Walsh announced a new South Boston one way only traffic flow to improve public safety, which will go into effect Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10 pm through Wednesday, April 1, 2015. 

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning in effect from 7 pm Saturday to 7 am, Monday, February 16, 2015. A wind chill warning remains in effect from 4 pm Sunday through 8 am Monday.

A parking ban will also go into effect Saturday, February 14th at 10 pm until Wednesday, February 18th at 6 pm. Discounted parking rates will be available starting at 8 pm.During declared snow emergencies, parking is prohibited on major arteries throughout the city.Ticketing and towing will begin at midnight. For a complete list of alternative parking, visit the City of Boston. The Channel Center Garage will be offering $10/day rates starting at 5 pm today until 24 hours after the parking ban is lifted. The Seaport Parking Garage is also offering $10/day rates through Tuesday, February 17th at 9 am. Parking space savers may be used for 48 hours after the ban is lifted. 

The MBTA will suspend all services starting with late-night service this Saturday, meaning the last trains will leave downtown Boston around 12:50 am. There will be no services on Sunday. Limited service resumed on Monday. For more details, visit the MBTA.

South Boston Street Changes

Even numbered streets will now be heading inbound to the city (west bound) and odd numbered streets will be heading outbound to Farragut Rd (east bound).  Main arterials will remain two-way streets. Streets that are currently one-way streets will maintain their original direction. The Boston Transportation Department is placing do not enter signs and barricades around the neighborhood this morning and the new temporary reconfiguration will go into effect at 10 pm tonight.  For changes to bus routes, check with the MBTA.

Boats, Wine, Home Show, Slopefest & More

This weekend boats are at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) and wine is being poured at the Seaport World Trade Center.  Next weekend be ready to hit the slopes at the Lawn on D, plus many more events occurring in and around the neighborhood.

The New England Boat Show is February 14 - February 22, 2015. The Boston Wine Expo is  February 14 - February 15, 2015.

Only in New England would you see snow plows trailing boats into the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center Exhibit Hall in preparation for New England Boat Show. Thousands of visitors are expected from Greater Boston and New England. The BCEC advises neighbors that this is a heavy drive-in event with many attendees coming by personal vehicle. There may be some traffic congestion during the weekend days of the event including President’s Day (Monday, February 16). The Channel Center Garage and Necco Garage will be used for overflow parking. Portable digital signs will be at: A Street at Necco Street facing south,
BCEC Marshalling Trailer, A Street at Richards Street, Richards Street at West First Street, and Cypher Street at South Boston Bypass Road facing East. In addition to State Police, Boston Police will be on hand over the weekend through President's Day to assist with traffic.

The New England Home Show is happening at the Seaport World Trade Center on February 20-22. Both events are expected to draw thousands of attendees to the area. The Boston Children’s Museum is hosting week long school vacation activities. Parking in the area may be limited on account of all these events and there may be additional traffic congestion. The MCCA Transportation Department will monitor the effect of these activities on BCEC event operations and will contact the appropriate parties to manage accordingly. Additionally, the Westin Waterfront is hosting Boskone, another heavy drive in event during the same weekend. The MCCA Transportation Department will work with the Westin Waterfront to make sure that Eastside Drive and all other roadways do not become overly congested.

The Pulse on Tour is taking place the weekend of February 14-15 at both the BCEC and the Westin Waterfront Hotel.

Slope Fest, an outdoor winter festival, is at Lawn on D during the second weekend of the New England Boat Show (February 21-22), which may draw another substantial amount of attendees. The MCCA Transportation Agents will pull traffic on Eastside Drive to relieve congestion.

Be prepared for many visitors to Fort Point and be ready to join in a wide variety of events and activities.

City of Boston Snow Announcements

Update: Snow parking ban in effect until
 5:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015 

Mayor Walsh declared a snow emergency parking ban in the City of Boston starting at 4pm on February 8, 2015. Residents have until 6pm to remove their cars from snow emergency routes before being ticketed. 

Discounted parking starts at 4pm at municipal lots and select private garages. Cars must enter by 6pm and depart two hours after the parking ban is lifted. The closest municipal lot for Fort Point resident parking sticker holders is the BCEC parking lot (free); entrance via Cypher St. The Channel Center Garage is offering $10/day parking starting at 4pm today. Cars parked in the Channel Center Garage must exit within 24 hours after the parking ban is lifted. The Seaport Boston Hotel is offering discounted parking rates of $10 per day to South Boston residents. Boston Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday. All community meetings are cancelled for Monday, February 9th. 

The Governor will be making an announcement on whether a travel ban will be in effect.

In case of inclement weather, meet in 1 Channel Center (State Street) Atrium.

Come and put your name in for a plot. We will draw 8 names for the garden plots and then 8 more for the waiting list. If you cannot attend, you may send a proxy with your contact information. Proxy may be involved with plot selection.

Garden plots are for 3 year terms to allow more people to participate in the garden over time.

If you are designated a plot, you must be prepared to plant your garden within the next week.

Traffic and Parking Advisory Saturday at BCEC

The Boston Police Promotional Examination and the Probation Officers Exam are both taking place at the BCEC on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 9 am - noon. About 3,000 total attendees and are expected to come in all at once. The MCCA Transportation Department is preparing for heavy traffic congestion at the start and break of both events.

It is anticipated that overflow parking will be needed for these two exams and maps will be distributed to test takers who wish to go directly to overflow so as to avoid traffic congestion at the BCEC. The following parking garages will be used for overflow parking:

• Channel Center Garage
• Necco Street Garage (as a secondary alternative)

A complimentary shuttle will also transport attendees between the offsite garage(s) and the BCEC.

As both of these exams are all in events, the MCCA Transportation Department foresees the possibility of attendees coming all at once and/or last minute attendees attempting to park at no parking areas. Police details will therefore have to be hired to manage the traffic and catch any parking violators. In addition to the South Boston police detail, Massachusetts State police will also be on hand at South Boston Bypass Rd & Cyprus from 6 am - 2 pm.

Boston Seafood Show Traffic Plan

The International Boston Seafood Show will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) Sunday, March 16 -  Tuesday, March 18, 2014. In case of overflow parking, BCEC visitors will be directed to the Necco Street garage and the open air lot off of A Street on Sunday, March 16th and to the Channel Center garage on Richards Street on Monday, March 17th.
