Traffic Advisory: Seaport Blvd Westbound Lane Closure, Seaport Lane to B Street

Please be advised that that from Thursday, May 4th to Thursday, May 18th the westbound lanes of Seaport Boulevard from Seaport Lane to B Street will be closed for full roadway reconstruction.  

Detour Routes:

From Northern Avenue East: At the D Street Intersection turn left to and continue to Congress Street. Continue on Congress street East until B Street.  Turn Right onto B Street and continue to Seaport Boulevard. Turn Left onto Seaport Boulevard.  

Seaport Hotel Traffic from Northern Avenue East: As normal, continue past detour signage at D Street intersection and turn left onto Seaport Lane.  

Timing: The westbound lanes will be closed at all times between May 4-May 18. 

Purpose: The roadway is being reconstructed as part of the Commonwealth Pier Revitalization Project to provide revised drainage and to reconstruct the center median.  

The Roadway reconstruction includes the following scope of work: 

Establishing work safety zone consisting of traffic barriers, gates, and construction fencing

Full depth removal of the existing roadway system using excavators with material being trucked offsite  

Raising roadway elevation up to 18 inches across the entire Westbound lanes via new subgrade materials delivered by truck 

Grading, preparing, and compacting the subgrade materials in preparation for binder course paving

Adjusting approximately twenty manholes, castings, and other utility structures

Installation of binder course asphalt paving

Delivery and installation of approximately 1,600 linear feet of granite curbing to create new roadway median

Binder course asphalt infill at areas of curb installation

Installation of temporary roadway markings

A State Police Detail will be stationed at the intersection of Seaport Lane and Seaport Boulevard throughout the period of roadway reconstruction.

Southie St. Patrick's Day Parade & Road Race This Sunday

The St. Patrick's Day parade will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2015. The parade will begin at 1 PM starting on West Broadway at Dorchester Avenue, continuing to East Broadway, and ending at Farragut Road. The St. Patrick’s Day Road Race will also take place on Sunday beginning at 11 AM.   Runners will proceed from West Sixth Street at F Street onto Dorchester Street, right onto East Broadway, down and around the Farragut Statue at Day Boulevard, to East Broadway, right onto West Broadway, left onto E Street, left onto West Sixth Street, ending at the Boys and Girls Club at #230 West Sixth Street.

To accommodate the two events, staging/dispersal and clean-up, drivers should expect the following roads to be closed to vehicular traffic. Streets effected by the parade will close no later than 12 PM and streets effected by the road race will close no later than 10 AM.  

  • Broadway, from Dorchester Avenue to Farragut Road
  • On intersecting streets from Dorchester Avenue through Farragut Road, vehicular traffic will not be allowed to cross Broadway
  • Dorchester Avenue, in the vicinity of Gillette Park and Andrew Square
  • Old Colony Avenue, from Dorchester Avenue to C Street
  • Farragut Road, from Columbia Road to Shore Road/East First Street
  • All race route streets while the runners make their way to the finish line
Due to a combination of snow and Resident Parking Only restrictions, parking in the neighborhood is limited. Additional parking restrictions that will be implemented temporarily to support Sunday’s events are as follows. “Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event Sunday”

  • Dorchester Avenue: Both sides, from Gillette Park to Old Colony Avenue (Staging Area)
  • Old Colony Avenue: Both sides, from Dorchester Avenue to C Street (Staging Area)
  • West Broadway: Both sides, from Dorchester Avenue to Dorchester Street
  • East Broadway: Both sides, from Dorchester Street to Farragut Road
  • Farragut Road: East side (park side), from Columbia Road to Shore Road /East First Street (Dispersal area)
  • West Sixth Street: Southwest side, from Dorchester Avenue to F Street
  • F Street: Southeast side (odd side – Boys & Girls Club side), West Sixth Street to Bowen Street
The Channel Center garage is offering $10/day rate for South Boston residents and the public. The rate will go in effect Saturday night to allow residents to remove their cars from along the parade and race route.

Street Closing & Restricted Parking This Friday

Farnsworth Street will be closed from Congress Street to the rear of the Boston Fire Museum on Friday June 13, 2014 from 2 pm to 9 pm. Alternate vehicle access to Congress Street will be made available. Also, there will be  restricted parking on Congress Street from 2 pm - 9 pm to allow Fire Department apparatus easy access.

The Boston Sparks Association, Inc., owner and curator/operator of the Boston Fire Museum, also provides Rehab/Fire ground support services to the Boston Fire Department and member departments of Metro Fire.

This year, the Boston Sparks will be hosting their Annual Cookout on the 13th. The theme this year is to thank other area Rehab/Canteen Services who supported the BSA during the Line of Duty Funerals in April for fallen Boston firefighters Walsh and Kennedy.

The following will be Special Guests to the BSA Annual Cookout; Providence Canteen, Worcester Canteen, Salvation Army, and Rehab 5.
