Art From Fort Point To The Distillery

The Artists at 249 A Street invite you to their annual group show tonight Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm in the Gallery At 249 A Street. The show covers a variety of mediums from painting, drawing, photography and prints to ceramics, mixed media and sculpture. Take a sneak peek. The exhibition closes November 10th.

On Friday November 3, 2017, Canvas Fine Arts is celebrating their 10th Anniversary and the kick-off of South Boston Open Studios with a reception and ArtBeat issue party at 6 pm. R.S.V.P.   

The artists and craftspeople of South Boston invite the public into their studios to see their work, hear about their process, and provide an opportunity to purchase original pieces directly from the artist this Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th from 12 pm to 6 pm. Children and families are welcome. South Boston Open Art Studios takes place at The Distillery, a former beer and ale brewery and producer of other social spirits, located at 516 E 2nd Street (H & 2nd Streets). Power Plant Redevelopment: Opens Opportunity For Art

The South Boston Arts Association (SBAA) is hosting Redgate/Hilco, developers of the 15 acre former Edison L Street Power Plan, who will discuss arts & cultural concepts for the mixed development at the SBAA monthly meeting:

The meeting will be held in the two story administration building at the north end of the property nearest the Summer Street bridge. For safety reasons, due to inadequate lighting and surface irregularities, parking on the premises will not be available. Suggestions:  on street parking, Uber or Lyft or Southie Shuttle. For Southie Shuttle call for pickup at 617-268-4110. Best to call for reservation after 5:30 pm a few days before the meeting.

Power Plant Redevelopment Opens Possibilities for South Boston

Redgate hosts second open house to discuss the re-development of the L Street Power Station in South Boston on:

September 14, 2016 at 6:30 pm

 Tynan School at 650  E. 4th Street.

In partnership with Hilco Global, which specializes in redeveloping industrial sites, Redgate purchased the 18 acre waterfront site of Exelon Corp.’s New Boston Generating Station this spring for $24.25 million, The site is located next to Boston Harbor's Reserved Channel at the corner of First and Summer Streets.  A mixed use development retaining historically significant elements is anticipated. 

The South Boston Arts Association (SBAA) is in active discussions with civic leaders as well as the new owners to specifically look at an Arts and Cultural Community Center on the first level. SBAA envisions a gallery, art workshops for children and seniors, a performance center for plays and concerts and a building which preserves history while shaping the future of South Boston.

South Boston Open Studios Kicks Off Tonight

South Boston Open Studios kicks off tonight at 7 PM at the 555 Gallery with a silent auction of fine art and crafts made by South Boston artists. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the local education enrichment program at The Paraclete. Come meet the artists and enjoy refreshments from local restaurants. Preview auction items. 555 Gallery is located at 555 E. 2nd Street (between H & I).

Two Great Art Associations Holding Openings Tonight

The South Boston Arts Association invites you to the Grand Opening of their new gallery, Arts Around The Corner, located just around the corner from the gift shop, Neatly Nested, at the corner of West Broadway and E Street. The Grand Opening is March 3, 2016 from 7 pm - 9 pm with music by Peter Golemme. Grand Opening exhibiting artists are: Evie Johnson, Joanie Miller, Anne Roper, Dennis Conway, Joe Kerbatis, Tom & Pat Steiner, Dan McCole, Deb Putnam and Judith Sweeney.

Closer to home, the Fort Point Arts Community invites you to an opening reception of their new exhibition, HIGH LOW, at the FPAC Gallery located at 300 Summer Street. The opening reception is from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. RSVP. HIGH LOW is a group show featuring  four Boston-based artists whose work involves the recycling of art historical tropes and genres with abjectness, irony, and humor. The artists are Alexandra Borovski, Alexander Clayton Johnson, Nick Mello, and Eric Stefanski.
