Stay Healthy: Free Covid 19 At-Home Rapid Test Kits

With COVID-19 cases once again on the rise among Boston residents, at-home rapid tests are an important strategy to protect friends and family from exposure and help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Starting today, the Boston Public Health Commission is pleased to offer free rapid at-home test kits at designated community sites across the city. Anyone who drops by a pickup site can take up to one kit (which includes two tests) for each member of their household per visit. Supplies are limited and BPHC is currently working to send additional kits to sites; in the meantime, residents are encouraged to call before stopping by a location.

In South Boston, you may pick up rapid at-home test kits at the Boston Public Library located at 646 East Broadway.

More information on the home test kits distribution timeline, pickup sites, and usage of the kits can be found here.

Community based organizations or service providers who work directly with communities or populations at heightened risk are encouraged to submit proposals for assistance in distributing test kits in the community. Supplies are limited and priority will be given to proposals that address race and place-based inequities in COVID-19 spread and testing access. More information can be found and proposals can be submitted here.

Please help spread the word about these kits and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Abeer Khatana at Boston Public Health Commission at akhatana@bphc.org or 401-218-7700.

Senator Nick Collins To Host Office Hours Friday

Did you know our neighborhood is made up of city, federal and state property owners in addition to private owners? I know you know we have elected officials from all three levels of government. State Senator Nick Collins will be holding office hours today, Friday, August 24, 2018 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the South Boston Public Library.

Come bring ideas or concerns regarding public transportation, public safety, development on State owned land such as the BCEC, MBTA Red line testing on Track 61, the future of the Northern Avenue Bridge or anything else on your mind. If you have never met the Senator, he invites you to stop by to say hello.

The library is located at 646 E. Broadway between I and K Streets (across from the Paramount and Stop & Shop).

Get In The Halloween Spirit

Grab the kiddies and get in the Halloween spirit at the Friends of the South Boston Branch Library's 13th annual Fall Fair this Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 11 am - 2 pm.  There will be crafts, face painting and pumpkin decorating. Families with infants up to age twelve year are invited to participate.

The South Boston Public Library is located at 647 East Broadway. The branch holds a special collection of South Boston historical materials. There is a large collection of adult music CDs. A set of historical maps of Boston is on permanent display.

The South Boston Branch first opened in April 1872 in the Masonic building at 372 West Broadway. It was the second branch library established in the United States. When the Masonic building was sold in 1948 the South Boston Branch was closed. In response to high demand for library service the branch was reopened in June 1950 in a storefront at 385-8 West Broadway where it remained until destroyed by fire in May 1957. Construction of the present building consolidated the City Point Branch with the South Boston Branch.
