Love Your Block Is Turning Sweet 16 Saturday

FPNA celebrates their sixteenth annual Love Your Block on May 15, 2021. Love Your Block is run in conjunction with the City's volunteer spring clean up program.

With the phased opening of our neighborhood, our first spring outdoor event will be a cleanup. We hope that as Covid restrictions ease, we will have an opportunity to host other beautification events like plantings and gardening.
Be an outdoor adventurer and help spruce up your neighborhood on:

Saturday, May 15, 2021
10 am - 1 pm
Wormwood Park (Wormwood & A Sts) M eetup
Tools & gloves will be provided. Please wear you mask.

We will meet at Wormwood Park and then disperse to the following cleanup locations:

A Fashi For Diane Ly At Summer & Melcher

updated 9/25/19: The Ly Family requested that we share a statement of thankful support from the family.  Please read below:

The Fort Point and Seaport community is coming together to remember Diane Ly, the 30-year-old woman who was hit and killed while crossing Summer Street at the Melcher Street intersection on September 11th. She was visiting our neighborhood with her very close friend Warren Cheng.

Please join FPNA for a mourning service, a Fashi, led by the Thousand Buddha Temple from Quincy.

We will be meeting on the sidewalk in front of 250 Summer Street, at the start of the Summer Street Bridge, at 2:00 PM this Wednesday, September 25th.

A statement from the Ly Family to the residents of Fort Point and Seaport:

Thank you for your generous outpouring of support for our family.  We would like to thank the Boston Police Department, Tufts medical personnel, and the first responders who tried to save Diane’s life.  We are working with the Boston Police Department to understand how this tragedy could have occurred and prevent it from happening to anyone else.

We are devastated by Diane's passing and praying for Warren’s speedy recovery.  We are asking for space as we mourn the loss of a daughter, friend, and family member who was taken away from us too soon.

If you would like to make a donation, a GoFundMe page has been established for Diane Ly and Warren Cheng,

Sincerely,

The Ly Family

Parking Restrictions Update Due To Road Excavation Work

updated 04/16/19:  Effective Thursday April 18, 2019 there will be no weekday parking from 9:30 am through 3:30 pm on Melcher Street starting with the spots closest to A St. Look for orange cones before you park and anticipate that the cones will shift a little from day to day.

Road excavation work to extend an intermediate gas main down A Street to Necco St via Melcher St is progressing.  A parking ban is in effect weekdays during the hours of 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. If you park on A Street or Melcher Street, avoid being towed by keeping an eye out for parking restrictions by block.

Currently, road work is occurring on A St from Wormwood St toward Melcher St.  It is anticipated that the crew will turn onto Melcher St by the end of the next week (April 5). If you park on A St or Melcher St, check for cones denoting no parking tow zones.  If someone you know parks on Melcher St, please be neighborly and let them know.

Expect delays at the intersection at A & Melcher due to the installation and underground utilities.

Bastille Kitchen Valet Parking Proposal Update

Bastille Kitchen and their valet parking agent, Pilgrim Parking, made a proposal to the Fort Point neighborhood regarding valet parking for the restaurant located at 49 Melcher Street. The proposal as stated by the Boston Transportation Department is:

  • Make two parking spots outside of Bastille Kitchen valet parking from the hours of 6 pm to 1 am. When these two spots are not being used for valet, they will be resident parking only as well.
  • The two spots that the valet takes will be replaced at two locations across the street (pictured below) with the same restrictions as the others.

The proposal was presented at the FPNA Neighborhood Meeting on September 30, 2014. At the meeting, neighbors voted in favor of a six month trial period of the above stated proposal; providing it is acceptable to the Boston Transportation Department (BTD). Per Eric Prentis, South Boston Coordinator at the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services, "With a six month trial period being something that the city would not entertain due to various reasons the decision was made to remove the proposal at this time."

The public hearing that was scheduled for 10/17 is removed from the docket for more community process.

If Bastille [Kitchen] chooses to continue the community process and receives enough support to warrant scheduling another hearing, then one will take place. These hearings are held by BTD. No notices are mailed out, however, the FPNA will communicate with the neighborhood and post an update on the FortPointBoston blog if there is a new proposal to be presented and any subsequent hearing date.
