Superstorm Sandy was a stunning wake-up call for coastal communities in the Northeast, even those such as Boston that escaped the worst of the storm's impact.  As New York governor Andrew Cuomo said, "Part of learning from this is the recognition that climate change is a reality, extreme weather is a reality … There’s only so long you can say, ‘This is once in a lifetime and it’s not going to happen again.’"
Please join TBHA's trustees, staff and members at our annual meeting on November 27th from 5 to 7 pm at the law offices of Bingham, One Federal Street, Boston (nearest T station:  South Street).  Bingham is generously providing refreshments.
After a social hour and a brief business meeting, TBHA's president Vivien Li, and UNH professor Dr. Paul Kirshen will lead a discussion of the current science behind sea level rise, what we can expect over the next century, and what can be done to make Boston's waterfront and downtown more resilent to coastal flooding.
Please note that Hurricane Sandy did postpone TBHA's board meeting where we would have voted on our annual awards; they will instead be given out at our fundraiser in April.

Romney Campaign at Boston Convention Center Election Night

Dear neighbors,

As you may already know, former Massachusetts Governor and Presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be holding his Election Night festivities at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center on Nov. 6.

This will likely be one of the busier events we’ve hosted in a single night, with worldwide media attention and thousands of supporters converging on the BCEC. I write this letter to inform you about the event and what impact it could have on you, our neighbors.

The event goes live at 6 a.m. on Nov. 6 and is expected to end by 2 a.m. on Nov. 7. The main Romney event at the BCEC will take place from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. starting on Election Night. TV crews will likely still be using the facility up until about noon on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

US Secret Service, State and Boston police may require road closures around the facility at various times during the event. These closures will likely impact only the immediate roads around the convention center, but if kept in place for a period of time, they could impact traffic in South Boston and Fort Point. We are working with all parties to ensure any impact is minimal. Police presence around the building will likely be elevated during the event.

Also, we are expecting 50 to 75 satellite trucks at the event, all of which will be parked on the BCEC’s West Side Drive adjacent to the building. All should likely be gone by the end of day on Nov. 7.

FPAC’s 33rd Annual Open Studios takes place October 19-21, 2012

 
Open Studios Events are free to the public, with FREE PARKINGin the Central Parking Lot on Binford Street off of A Street

Explore the historic waterfront warehouses that are home to painters, sculptors, ceramicists, jewelers, performance artists, fashion designers, printmakers, book artists, photographers, and more. Meet local artists and craftspeople, and get a behind the scenes look at where Boston artists create their work.Find established artists, and discover new emerging talents. Stroll, ponder, and browse. Buy original art from the people who make it.
Visitors to Open Studios can explore 10 buildings in the Fort Point neighborhood, plus galleries and creative design shops. All buildings are in easy walking distance of each other.
