National Parks 100th Anniversary Celebration Continues Saturday

Celebrate the spirit of revolution with our National Parks this Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Charlestown Navy Yard with a day of free tours, history, live music, swing dancing, kids' activities and theater.  

Rosies Invade the Yard – 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Board the USS Cassin Young and learn about the women who built warships during World War II


Ranger-led Tours (Begin at the Main Flag Pole)
  • USS Cassin Young (11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.)
  • Rosies of the Yard (10:00 a.m., 12 Noon, 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m.)

Live Music on Pier 1
  • Swing Dance Demonstration with the Boston Lindy Bomb Squad (1:00pm)
  • Berklee Music Concerts (2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m.)
  • Swing Dance Lessons (6:30 p.m.)
  • Tin Pan Band Swing Dance for All! (7:00 - 8:30 p.m.)

Hands on History Tent (1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.)
  • Kids of all ages can take history home by making rope, riveting a ribbon bracelet, designing a work badge, or taking a picture at the "We Can Do It" selfie booth.

History Talks in the Visitor Center Theater (Building 5)
  • 1:00 p.m. – Rosie the Riveter: Women Working on the Home Front in World War II by Penny Coleman
  • 2:00 p.m. – Where the Action Was: Women Correspondents in World War II by Penny Coleman
  • 3:00 p.m. – SWON: Shipbuilding Women of the Navy, by Polly Kienle, Park Ranger, Boston National Historical Park
  • 1:00 & 4:00 p.m. – Animating the War Effort by Christina Knopf *At the Constitution Museum Theater*
